Objective

 To study the usage of fluid mechanics study in industry.

 To understand the working principle applied
 To learn the calculation involved in the selected industrial fluid system

Summary

Archimedes' principle, principle that states that a body immersed in a fluid is buoyed up by a

force equal to the weight of the displaced fluid. The principle applies to both floating and
submerged bodies and to all fluids, i.e., liquids and gases. In this case the report will be
explaining on the usage of the principle in submarine. This principle is mostly about the density
of the submarine and the density of the fluid that is sea. The submarine can submerged into the
sea because it’s density is larger than the sea’s density. The submarine fill its ballast tank to
increase the density that is by displacing the air inside the tank. To resurface the submarine, the
ballast tank will be fill with air thus decreases its density.
Introduction

 Naval Industry

Naval industry is related to the build or repair floating vessel such as ships, yacht, submarines
and many more. The place where all the construction and repair take place named as shipyards.
The person who are specialized in ship building are called as shipbuilder or shipwright.

 Submarine

Submarine is define as naval vessel which is capable to float and dive into the water. There are
many types and capabilities among submarines depends on its purpose and the design will also
be different. Floating and submerge of submarines is followed by Archimedes Principle.

 Archimedes’ Principle

Archimedes' principle states that the upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed
in a fluid, whether fully or partially submerged, is equal to the weight of the fluid that the body
displaces and acts in the upward direction at the center of mass of the displaced
fluid.Archimedes' principle is a law of physics fundamental to fluid mechanics
The submarines works by using Archimedes’ Principle by manipulating the buoyancy. The ballast
tank is the one which controlled the buoyancy inside the submarines. The submarine is in
positive buoyancy if the submarine resting on the surface, which mean the density of water
outside the submarine will be denser than the submarine and it will float. To submerge, the
submarine need to achieve negative buoyancy which the water is less dense than the
submarine. Sea water will enter the ballast tank if the vents is open and it will forces the air out
the vents, thus the submarine will sink. The depth can be manipulate by adjusting the air and
water ratio in ballast tank. Lastly is neutral buoyancy which the submarines neither submerge
nor float.
