BEAM
Structural member subjected to bending moments and shearing forces due to transverse loading.
Minimum size of beam according to BNBC and ACI code-
• BNBC code= 10" * 12"
• ACI code= 12" * 12"

Design Considerations of a Beam:

1) Bending moment & shear force
2) Deflection
3) Bearing stress
4) Buckling.

Types of Beam:
1. Cantilever beam.
2. Simply supported beam.
3. Overhanging beam.
4. Fixed beam.
5. Continuous beam

Beam Analysis
At first assume beam size and used thumb rule for assuming beam size. If the beam length is 15
feet, consider the beam depth is 15-inch minimum. Than analysis the beam and got conventional
depth, then provide this depth for design.
