Chemical engineering Quality Assurance

The term "quality assurance" is sometimes used interchangeably with "quality

control," another facet of the management process. However, quality control
pertains to the actual fulfillment of whatever quality requirements have been put
in place. Quality assurance is checking in on quality control methods to ensure
they're working as planned. Most businesses utilize some form of quality
assurance in production, from manufacturers of consumer packaged goods to
software development companies. Some companies may even establish a
quality assurance department with employees that focus solely on quality
assurance. uality assurance encompasses the processes and procedures that
systematically monitor different aspects of a service or facility. Through audits
and other forms of assessment, quality assurance efforts detect and correct
problems or variances that fall outside established standards or requirements.
The Quality Plan needs to provide details of the quality management system
requirements to be applied during the design process, including any quality
assurance requirements to be carried out by design consultants. This report will
present some concepts of QA and its difference with QC in order to avoid
overlaps between them.

1-Introdction

The function of project and construction management is to assure acceptable

quality while executing the project on-time and on-budget. For an FTA grantee,

3|Page
Chemical engineering Quality Assurance

acceptable quality has a broad meaning – it means meeting the needs of the
public and satisfying all of the regulatory and operational requirements outside
and within the agency The major reason for emphasizing the need for a Quality
Plan in addition to the PMP is to explicitly recognize the importance of quality
in constructed projects and in procurement. The job of project management is to
manage schedule, budget, and quality of a project. However, since schedule and
budget are easy to measure, and thus have been the traditional focus of
management, quality processes have often been overlooked. The requirement
for a specific Quality Plan for a project helps to address this imbalance. The
goal of quality assurance (QA) is to identify and implement sampling and
analytical methodologies which limit the introduction of error into analytical
data. For MARSSIM data collection and evaluation, a system is needed to
ensure that radiation surveys produce results that are of the type and quality
needed and expected for their intended use. A quality system is a management
system that describes the elements necessary to plan, implement, and assess the
effectiveness of QA activities. This system establishes many functions
including: quality management policies and guidelines for the development of
organization- and project-specific quality plans; criteria and guidelines for
assessing data quality; assessments to ascertain effectiveness of QA
implementation; and training programs related to QA implementation. A quality
system ensures that MARSSIM decisions will be supported by sufficient data of
adequate quality and usability for their intended purpose, and further ensures
that such data are authentic, appropriately documented, and technically
defensible.

2- Quality Assurance Tools & Techniques

There are many tools and techniques that form the basis of the key quality
assurance principles. Some of these include.

 Inspection

3- Typical Quality Assurance Duties& How work

3-1:Duties
Chemists who work in quality assurance enjoy finding ways to reduce the
possibility of error in manufacturing methods by using a big-picture view of
product quality. So the duties is:

5|Page
Chemical engineering Quality Assurance

 Develop and validate methods for analyzing and producing products to

ensure they meet specifications and document those methods in standard
operating procedures (SOPs) and production records
 Audit quality control, production and sales functions, and other records
to ensure compliance with SOPs
 Assist quality control staff with troubleshooting and resolving unusual
problems
 Develop quality metrics and assess trends for product or process
implications
 Develop and implement improvements to existing sample and data
analysis techniques
 Critically evaluate current processes and continually identify ways to
save time and money without sacrificing product quality
 Investigate product, and process deviations, identify root cause, and
develop corrective and preventative actions
 Participate in audits by customers and regulatory agencies and respond to
customer complaints

3-2: How Quality Assurance Works:

Quality assurance methods focus on establishing good processes to produce
products with the quality already built-in, rather than going through an
unmonitored production process and trying to “inspect the quality” of a product
that’s already been finished. Concepts of quality control can be traced back to at
least the Middle Ages and the rise of guilds. A craftsman could access a
network of connections with other craftsmen and suppliers by joining a guild
organization. He could then benefit from the reputation of the guild based on
standards of quality in the products produced by its members. The Industrial
Revolution brought about more specialization in labor, as well as
mechanization. Quality assurance evolved to address specialized tasks
performed by workers. With the introduction of mass production, the need to
monitor the quality of components being produced by large numbers of workers
created a role for quality inspectors. Today's approaches to quality assurance
may differ depending on the industry. For example, a hospital might implement
QA methods to improve the quality of healthcare. This could include defining
quality by understanding core activities in effective patient care, setting quality
benchmarks, and measuring quality with surveys, audits, and supervision.
Another business, such as a nutritional supplement manufacturer, would have

6|Page

completely different methods to ensure quality since its product parameters are
completely different than a hospital. For example, the supplement company
might guide its processes based on guidelines for active pharmaceutical
ingredients.

4- Chemicals Quality Assurance Services

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) determine the Quality Assurance that
ensures products are consistently produced and controlled to the quality
standards appropriate for their intended use, and conform to the regulatory
requirements stipulated by health authorities. A global company, has teams of
interdisciplinary experts in science and technology, specializing from
fundamental science to cutting edge technology. With an in-depth knowledge
and industrial experience in the Clean Concept and the code of GMP, together
with an extensive international network of experts, is able to identify and define
your needs in conformance to GMP guidelines, be they compliance or
validation requirements. Global company offers the following services:

 Laboratory pre-auditing
 System training for ISO/IEC 17025 and CNAS
 Directives introduction and testing process demonstration
 Correlation sample testing and correction suggestion
 Laboratory management system and technical audits

5- Difference between Quality Assurance and

Quality Control:

Quality assurance and quality control are two aspects of quality management.
While some quality assurance and quality control activities are interrelated, the
two are defined differently. Typically, QA activities and responsibilities cover
virtually all of the quality system in one fashion or another, while QC is a subset
of the QA activities. Also, elements in the quality system might not be
specifically covered by QA/QC activities and responsibilities but may involve
QA and QC.

Quality Assurance Quality assurance can be defined as "part of quality

management focused on providing confidence that quality requirements will be
fulfilled." The confidence provided by quality assurance is twofold—internally
to management and externally to customers, government agencies, regulators,
certifiers, and third parties. An alternate definition is "all the planned and
systematic activities implemented within the quality system that can be
demonstrated to provide confidence that a product or service will fulfill
requirements for quality." Will Quality Control Quality control can be defined
as "part of quality management focused on fulfilling quality requirements."
While quality assurance relates to how a process is performed or how a product
is made, quality control is more the inspection aspect of quality management.

8|Page

An alternate definition is "the operational techniques and activities used to

fulfill requirements for quality."

5-1: INDUSTRY PERSPECTIVES ON QA AND QC

For some service organizations, the concept of quality control may be foreign
because there is no tangible product to inspect and control. The quality
assurance function in a service organization may not include quality control of
the service but may include quality control of any products involved in
providing the service. A service may include products that are documents (such
as a report, contract, or design) or tangible products (such as a rental car or units
of blood). It may be necessary to control product quality in a service
organization to ensure that the service meets customer requirements.

6- QA Components
While quality control involves inspecting the actual products or services in the
field, quality assurance is reviewing the delivery process of services or the
quality management manufacturing of goods. By inspecting your goods or
services at the source, you can catch mistakes before they reach the customer.
You can also fine tune your processes to prevent errors in the future. When
reviewing your product or service during this stage of quality control
management, you will want to follow these steps:

1-Confirm that everything is operating as it was agreed upon during the quality
planning stage

2-Measure how effective your pre-determined processes are and confirm that all
compliance needs are being met

3-Take note of any lessons learned

9|Page
Chemical engineering Quality Assurance

4-Identify areas where there is an opportunity for a smoother process

7- Benefits of Good QA:

7-1: General benefits
Because effective QA is able to reduce the number of errors and defects it
likewise lowers costs and yields better quality products. For that reason good
QA has the following general benefits in just about every industry that utilizes
it:

1-Lower costs

2-Greater productivity

3-Improved reputation with customers/clients

4-Improved reputation within the industry

7-2: The Benefits of Good QA for the Chemical and

Petrochemical Sector:
Good QA within the chemical and petrochemical sector will provide:

1-High Accuracy

2-High Reproducibility

3-Better consumer/client confidence

4-Improved company reputation

5-Ability to meet regulatory standards

6-Ability to meet industry standards

7-Enhanced safety

8-Discution:
Q1:What is quality assurance?
A: QA establishes and maintains set requirements for developing or
manufacturing reliable products. A quality assurance system is meant to
increase customer confidence and a company's credibility, while also improving
work processes and efficiency, and it enables a company to better compete with
others.

Q2: What Is The Importance of Quality Assurance?

A: Quality Assurance is important as it is used to ensure how something is
done, that is the process, is done effectively by those involved, that is the people
doing the process along with the technology being used. Quality Assurance
allows processes to be repeated without any deviation, assuring the quality of
the process involved everytime.

Q3: What is the difference of QA and QC?

A: QA, Quality Assurance is about the processes and the people involved whilst
QC, Quality Control is about whether what’s produced is as expected and meets
the requirements.

Q4: Which is better Quality Control or Quality Assurance?

A: Both Quality Assurance and Quality Control are needed. Quality Assurance
is needed to make sure the consistency of production is maintained and Quality
Control is needed to ensure the production produces what’s was expected.
Without Quality Assurance what’s produced could be inconsistent and the
Quality Control will end up rejecting more production. However, getting
Quality Assurance right, will lead in more Quality Control acceptance of
production.

Q5: Is QA a test or QC?

A: QA, Quality Assurance is a test but only for checking the processes and how
the people involved with the processes are effective. QC, Quality Control is a
test on checking what’s produced is what’s expected.
