A. Answer the questions below. Use the examples as models of the grammar
and vocabulary you have to use.

1. Why didn’t you study English before? (List at least 5 reasons in a

composition.)

Example:

One of the reasons why I didn’t study English before it is because I

thought it was too difficult. I didn’t understand my English teacher at
school and that was frustrating.
1 The initial reason why I did not study English before was because I had no interest in
languages, I felt that learning was difficult for me.

2 He was really interested in other subjects such as physics, mathematics and other
subjects.

3 Something that I also contributed was that the teachers were not very good, I think
they did not make the subject very dynamic and at times it was quite scary.

4 Another reason was that the school did not generate culture and importance for the
foreign language such as competitions or awards that motivated students to study
languages.

5. Finally, I did not have the financial resources to do an intensive course or have
private teachers who could guide or teach me about the language.

2. How different would things be if you had learned English before? (Name
and explain at least 5 things.)

Example:

If I had learned English some years ago I would have accepted a job a
multinational company offered me five years ago. One of the requirements
was to speak English and my level back then was very low.

1 If I had learned English earlier, I would have gone to any country in Europe or some
country where the dominant language was English.

2 If I had learned English before, now I would be an English teacher in an institution in

Colombia and I would be earning extra income.

3 If you had learned English before, you would be working in a multinational in

Cartagena, there are many opportunities to get by if you know how to speak English.

4 If I had learned English earlier, I would extend my professional profile and be better
prepared before international regulations.

5 If you had learned English before, you would probably be certified in the highest
level of English.
B. Record an audio file of yourself answering the following questions. Use the
examples as models of the grammar and vocabulary you have to use.

1. Why are you studying English? (List and explain at least 4 reasons.)

Example:

I’m studying English because I finally decided that if I want to improve my

professional profile becoming bilingual is essential.

2. In what ways are you going to benefit from this learning?

Example:

Being competent in English is going to increase the opportunities of landing a

more satisfying and better-paid job. We live in an international open market and
English is the most important language.
