English Home Assignment: Paragraph Paragraph A Group of Sentences
Home Assignment
A paragraph is a brief piece of writing that's around seven to ten sentences long. It has a topic sentence
and supporting sentences that all relate closely to the topic sentence. The paragraph form refers to its
overall structure, which is a group of sentences focusing on a single topic.
There are three main parts of a paragraph:
Topic sentence - The topic sentence is usually the first sentence but it can appear at any point in the
paragraph. The main thing is to be sure you have a topic sentence because it gives your paragraph its focus.
Supporting sentence - To explain your topic sentence, you need to provide facts and reasons. These
sentences are supporting sentences. These fill up the body of your paragraph. Sufficient supporting
sentences can prove your point of view and can convince the readers to agree with your point of
view. Each supporting sentence should relate to the topic sentence.
If the topic of the paragraph is One Person I Admire, then, the supporting ideas will be the reasons
why you admire this person, such as, caring, hardworking and sense of humour.
Concluding sentence -: It is important to wrap the paragraph with a good closing sentence. The
concluding sentence of your paragraph should restate the idea outlined in your topic sentence. You
can write the Closing sentence in capital letters or with a different colour pen.
