Q.1 Why we provide inflation layers around the geometry?
Ans. The velocity and often temperature gradients normal to a wall is typically much larger
than the gradients parallel to the wall. The inflation layer control is designed to create thin
elements that can capture the normal gradient with minimal elements; inflation layers are
used to correctly capture the velocity and temperature gradients near no-slip walls.
Q.2 What is the purpose of Boolean operation?
Ans. Boolean operation is used to combine defined regions or subtract a region from another.
Boolean operations are computations involving combinations of geometric entities.
Q.3 Different tools under Boolean Operation?
Ans. The different tools under Boolean operation are:

• Unite: to combine two adjacent parts, A+B

• Subtract: remove a body from another. A-B

• Intersect: find the common between two bodies. Here you can retain all or only the
common. A ∩ B.

• Imprint faces: create a mark of a body over another, like projecting the surfaces of A
onto B.

Q.4 What is the use of Add frozen in Extrude tool?

Ans. Add frozen will add your material as a separate body. When we create one
cylinder extrude on the existing cube and we use add material then it will add cylinder into
the cube and it will create a single part single body phenomenon, but if we use add frozen
instead of add material it will create one cube and one cylinder, which will create one part
two bodies phenomena.

Q.5 What are two modules for making geometry in the Ansys Workbench?
Ans. The two modules for making geometry in the Ansys Workbench are:

• DesignModeller

• SpaceClaim
Q.6 For Boolean operation at least how many numbers of sketches are required?
Ans. Two

Q.7 Name some of the constraints used in ANSYS geometry?

Ans. Some of the constraints used in ANSYS geometry are:
• Horizontal
• Vertical
• Perpendicular
• Tangent
• Coincident
Q.8 Name the tool used to convert unstructured mesh to structured mesh?
Ans. We have to insert a method in the mesh to create a structures mesh, it could be
automatic, tetrahedrons or hex dominant.
Q.9 How we check the quality of mesh?
Ans. A high quality mesh will have an average aspect ratio close to one and average
skewness close to 0.
Q.10 2D Triangular mesh and 2D Quadrilateral mesh in 3D are termed as?
Ans. A 2D triangular mesh in 3D is a tetrahedron mesh. A 2D quadrilateral mesh in 3D is a
hexahedron mesh.
