Now, could you personally like the more time consuming meals more? Sure, but your blog is not about
you! You didn’t create a blog to only serve yourself babe! Your 20-minute meals should still inspire and
motivate you, while at the same time creating an optimal service for your reader. This is the biggest
change I see when it comes to influencing – when you start making it less about you, and more about
them – your entire engagement will change!
As human beings, we have to know that we have the freedom of choice. As influencers, as must always
let our tribe know that choice can be found in the content we share. Some readers may always be
interested in what you have to say and become loyal supporters, other readers may pull from multiple
influencers to figure who they align with and trust, and other readers may be years away from building
that trust and loyalty with you. In order to fuse the gap on these three variations of your ideal audience,
you need to create content that honors the variances in each reader’s situation and offer content
choices conducive to each.
For example, at the end of a blog post, don’t assume you know what the next step should be and force
your buyer to take it. Offer options instead.
From the examples given above, the loyal reader may go straight from your blog to an affiliate link to
buy an outfit you are wearing.
For the reader who pulls from multiple influencers, you may want to offer them a reason to stay on your
page, be it exclusive access to something or a “freebie” that they may not be getting anywhere else.
By offering choice, you can create a personalized and individualized experience for each reader.
When it comes to value, your content should be LESS about your business and more about what your
reader needs from you.
How many times a day do we see a post that goes something like this:
These posts do not create a service, what they create is a billboard ad.
In order to create value for your readers, your posts should go more like this:
»» “I am a fashion blogger, here are 3 ways to style 1 dress…3 outfits for the price of 1”
You see the difference? It’s all about how you speak to their needs that creates value, loyalty and a tribe.
Your #1 goal when it comes to cultivating your tribe should be to attract the ones who are going to “drink
your KOOL aid” while at the same time repelling those who never will.
So, how do you attract those who will value your service the most? By providing them with a knowledge,
skillset and outlook that’s unique and hard to find anywhere else.
If you’re doing the same thing everyone else is doing – you will not stick out among the saturation.
Now, just as important as it is to ATTRACT your tribe, you also have to 200% repel those who are not
potential tribe members. What’s the best way to do that? Have an opinion! So many people are afraid to
truly have an opinion because they want to “appeal to everyone”. But, if you’re talking to everybody, then
you are talking to nobody!
Speak up and show up about how fabulous your service is, why it matters, how it serves and why you are
a go to leader in your field. I became a leader in my field of digital marketing, PR, blogging and branding
because I simply said that I was, and I have the experience to back it up.
Now, if this rubs people the wrong way, even better. Because when you repel those who aren’t being
ENGAGEMENT
In order to influence, you have to engage – it goes hand and hand. Take about 10 minutes everyday to
ask your tribe questions. Become a supporter of who supports you by following them back, learning about
them, engaging in their posts and what they have to say. Leave comments that are genuine and cultivate a
conversation. Repost photos they may share that visually represent you and the tribe. Engagement is a two
way street, you can’t expect to win if you aren’t playing the game yourself.
