Student Learning Outcomes and Topics:
Course Outcome 1 Students will demonstrate basic
understanding of the scientific method
and its application in solving everyday
problems.
Course Outcome 2 Students will demonstrate
understanding of the cell as the unit of
structure and biological function.
Course Outcome 3 Students will demonstrate
understanding of the principles of
heredity.
Topics that are emphasized in this course include the fundamental chemical and physical processes
common to all living organisms, the interactions between organisms and their environment,
classical and molecular genetics, metabolism, plant and animal anatomy and physiology, animal
behavior, evolution, cellular and molecular biology, and the experimental and cognitive processes
used to examine these fields. (FT). UC Transfer Course List. Associate Degree Credit & transfer to
CSU and/or private colleges and universities. CAN BIOL 2 = BIOL 107 (City,Mesa) CAN BIOL SEQ A =

PREREQUISITE:
Eligibility for English 101 or concurrent enrollment in English 56 and/or English

ATTENDANCE AND IMPORTANT MEETING DATES:
Attendance is required for lab every week.
Lecture is online, Missing the first lab day will result in a drop from the course.
Special Note: You are expected to put in the equivalent time as you would in an on campus course.
Therefore plan your time. Typically a 3-hour per week biology lecture will require 2 to 3 hours
outside of class for study time. Therefore plan a minimum of 3 + (2*3) = 9 hours per week on this
course to earn a passing grade. Double this for summer!

Accommodating Students with Disabilities:
The course design has made every effort to make this course accessible to all students, including
students with disabilities. If you encounter a problem accessing anything in this course, please
contact me immediately by email and/or also contact the college’s Disability Support Programs and
Services (DSPS) Office.
• Students with disabilities who may need academic accommodations should notify the
professor within the first two weeks of instruction. All information will be kept confidential.

Course Structure:
The course will follow the textbook by chapter. You will be expected to read the book. In addition
online resources will significantly help your understanding. Recommendation: Print out the study
guide as you start a chapter; annotate it with answers and page numbers or web sites covering that
topic. Have that ready to go for the quiz, as the quiz is timed. Review all these study guides for your
midterms and final exam. Best of luck!
