3. Usage Guide
A. A summary of the instructions contained in this manual is as follows:
(1) DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION. This section provides a description, leading

particulars and operation procedures for the passenger seats. Nomenclature used
for parts in the description and on the illustrations is consistent with that used
throughout this manual including the ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST.
(2) TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION. This section details testing and
troubleshooting a completely assembled passenger seat.
(3) SCHEMATICS AND WIRING DIAGRAMS. This section contains revisions

reference sheets, schematics, and wiring diagrams for the passenger seat.
(4) DISASSEMBLY. This section details the disassembly procedure for parts that need
to be removed to allow visual inspection of the passenger seats and for parts that
can be removed.
(5) CLEANING. This section provides a list of cleaning materials and instructions for
cleaning the passenger seats.
(6) INSPECTION/CHECK. This section provides the method of inspecting and

checking individual parts for serviceability.
(7) REPAIR. This section provides a list of all materials required for the passenger
seats and repair or replacement instructions that refers to the procedure for the
removal, disassembly, repair, reassembly, and installation of all parts not listed in
DISASSEMBLY.

(8) ASSEMBLY. This section includes a list of all materials required during assembly,
and the assembly procedures for all parts disassembled in DISASSEMBLY.
REPAIR details the assembly procedure for all parts not detailed in this section.
This section also provides storage instructions for the passenger seats.
(9) FITS, CLEARANCES AND ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES. This section contains

fits, clearances and adjustment procedures for the passenger seats including
torque tables, adjustments, and general installation information.
(10) SPECIAL TOOLS, FIXTURES, EQUIPMENT AND CONSUMABLES. This section

contains a list of the equipment and consumables used to service the passenger
seats.
(11) ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST. This section contains a complete list of spare parts
for the passenger seats with an alphanumeric index listed in the front.
(12) REWORK. This section contains procedures to rework or modify the seat assembly
or components of the seat.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. Description
A. General.
The passenger seats feature maximum comfort design and consist of an aluminum base
frame assembly to which are attached lie-flat sleeper reclining seat backs, articulating/
tilting bottom assemblies, center console assemblies, armrest food table assemblies
and fully upholstered seat back and bottom cushion assemblies. The passenger seats
are installed and secured to the metal floor tracks located in the aircraft cabin by track
attachment fittings at each front and rear leg. Seat dimensions are shown in Figure 1.
Seat dimensions not shown are the same as the opposite view. Refer to Table 2 for
dimension tolerances.
B. TSO Limitations.
The conditions and tests required for TSO approval of these articles are minimum
performance standards. It is the responsibility of those desiring to install the articles
either on or within a specific type or class of aircraft to determine that the aircraft
installation conditions are within the TSO standards. If not within the TSO standards, the
articles may be installed only if further evaluation by the applicant documents an
acceptable installation and is approved by the Administrator.
C. Conformity to Certification.
The numerous requirements for demonstrating that a “seat system” meets all the static
and dynamic loads, the permanent deformation limitations, and the injury criteria, imply
that individual elements of a seat system cannot be evaluated independently from each
other. This difficulty translates into keeping the chain of structures and other essential
features affecting the performance of the “seat system” intact as certificated.
The performance of the components, the behavior of which are critical to the overall
system, are numerous. These include, but are not limited to the seat belt, the bottom
cushions, the back structure, the seat back weight and vertical center of gravity, the
impact surfaces on the back such as back mounted tables and appliances, the total
mass of the seat, any structural load path active in a primary or secondary fashion in
restraining the passenger to the seat and to the aircraft. Additionally, the seat back
upright setting, back breakover (if any and degrees), seat pitch, aircraft track, track
fitting, track adapter, angle of the seat with respect to the aircraft axis (e.g., non-constant
section), baggage bar design, IFE support installation on legs, retention of deployable
items, such as tables, video and others, all have significant impact on the certification.
Modifications by a non OEM; or the replacement of a non OEM component, will
invalidate the OEM’s TSO certification.

D. Safety Considerations.
Each back incorporates padded material to protect against head strike injury and is
contoured to fit a passenger of varied sizes yet provide optimum comfort.
The seat bottom structure (base frame assembly) is designed to eliminate any
protrusions, edges, or projections which might penetrate the various cushions during
vertical movements. All areas of passenger contact are free of projections which might
cause injury or damage to clothing.
Bottom and back cushion assemblies are covered with fireblocking covers.
E. Seat Backs.
The seat backs incorporate design features which provide maximum comfort with
minimum interference for ingress and egress of passengers when installed in the
aircraft. The seats feature lie-flat sleeper recline capability. Seat back recline is
electrically controlled.
F. Seat Bottom Assemblies.
Seat pan tilting is designed to create recliner effect for reading/relaxing.
G. Legrest Assemblies.
The seat assemblies are equipped with an electrically operated legrest assembly. The
legrest has a manually operated (backup) feature.
H. Drop-Down Armrest.
The seat assemblies are equipped with electrically operated drop-down armrest
assemblies. The armrests have a manually operated (backup) feature.
I. Headrest Assemblies.
Seat assemblies are equipped with adjustable headrest assemblies.
J. Lumbar Support Assemblies.
An 4-way electrical lumbar support assembly is provided in each seat back assembly.

2. Operation.
A. Electric Operation.
Electric operation of the armrest, legrest, rotary bottom, lumbar, and seat back recline is
controlled by the passenger control switch. Press the applicable portion of the switch
control to operate the various functions. Mechanical backup controls (rotary recline/
legrest) are provided under the forward portion of the seat assembly under the bottom
cushion (refer to IPL Figure 7). Mechanical backup controls (drop-down armrest) are
located in the aft area of the armrests. (refer to IPL Figure 7). Backup controls are for
flight personnel use in the event of electrical power failure/malfunction. Refer to
following applicable paragraphs for detailed seat operation.
B. Seat Backs.
The seat back recline may be adjusted (more or less recline) to a recline position by
pressing the seat back portion of the passenger control switch. A mechanical backup
control is provided under the bottom cushion.
C. Seat Bottom Assemblies.
To operate the tilting bottom assembly, depress the bottom portion of the control switch
and adjust as desired. A mechanical backup control is provided under the bottom
cushion.
D. Armrest Assemblies.
To operate the armrest assembly, depress the armrest portion of the control switch and
adjust as desired. A mechanical backup control is provided aft of the armrest assembly.
E. Legrest Assemblies.
To operate the legrest assembly, depress the legrest portion of the control switch and
allow legrest to deploy to desired position. To stow the legrest, press legrest control
switch and allow legrest to go down to the stowed position. A mechanical backup control
is provided under the bottom cushion.
F. Lumbar Assemblies.
The lumbar support is electrically operated and controlled by the lumbar control portion
of the electronic control/switch. The lumbar support is adjustable vertically (up-down)
and horizontally (in-out).

TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION

1. Operational Checks
A. Seat Back Alignment and Recline Test
(1) Depress back recline portion of electric control/switch (located on furniture

assembly) and operate back recline throughout the recline cycle.
NOTE Refer to Table 1001 for proper deploy/stow time requirements.
(a) Movement should be smooth with no binding.
(b) If dimensions measured are not as indicated on Figure 1, refer to FITS,

CLEARANCES AND ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES paragraph 2.A and
adjust.
(2) With all seat backs in full upright position, visually check alignment of seat backs
against each other, none should be obviously out of alignment.
(3) Seat Measurement.
(a) If the seat is on a known flat and level surface, place a plumb-bob over the top
of each seat back at the center, and measure the distance from the centerline
of the front track fitting of the seat (Ref. Fig. 1 DESCRIPTION AND
OPERATION section) to the plumb-bob; measurements shall be as indicated
on Figure 1.
(b) If the seat is not on a flat and level surface, measure the distance from the
center of the seat back to centerline of the front track fitting of the seat (Ref.
Fig. 1, DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION section) use a tool that can allow
for an unlevel condition. These tools may include, but are not limited to, a
level, square, linear scale, special templates and/or a straight edge.
(4) In the recline manual backup mode, press mechanical backup recline control
button located under the bottom cushion while applying a force to top of seat back
assembly. Seat back shall move to full recline position, or stop automatically at any
position when the recline control button is released.
(a) If seat back does not fully recline (refer to fully reclined dimension specified in
Fig. 1), adjust in accordance with FITS, CLEARANCES AND ADJUSTMENT
PROCEDURES paragraph 2.A.
(b) The seat back must be manually moved to the full upright position.
NOTE Refer to paragraph 3.B.(3) for recline actuator electrical troubleshooting

and adjustment procedure.

(1) Depress legrest portion of electronic control/switch and allow legrest assembly to
come up to “use” position.
(b) Depress legrest portion of electronic control/switch and place legrest

assembly into “stow” position.
(c) Movement should be smooth with no binding.
(2) In the legrest manual backup mode, press mechanical legrest control button
located under the bottom cushion.
(a) Legrest shall come up to the “in use” position with no binding.
(b) While depressing control button, lower the legrest into the “stow” position. Do
not allow legrest to “gravity” drop. Movement shall be with no binding.
NOTE Refer to paragraph 3.B.(3) for legrest actuator electrical troubleshooting and
adjustment procedure.
C. Drop-Down Armrest Installations
(1) Depress armrest portion of electronic control/switch and place armrest assembly
into “down” position.
(2) Depress armrest portion of electronic control/switch and allow armrest assembly to
come up to “stow” position.
NOTE Refer to paragraph 3.B.(3) for armrest actuator electrical troubleshooting and
adjustment procedure.
D. Headrest Assemblies
(1) Adjust headrest wings to their full range of movement.
(2) Movement should be smooth with no binding.
(3) Wings should remain in desired position.
(4) Adjust headrest as necessary, refer to FITS AND CLEARANCES AND

ADJUSTMENTS, paragraph 2.B.

2. Fault Isolation
Troubles encountered with mechanical operation of the seat assembly will largely be the
result of improper adjustments. In addition, after overhaul and adjustment, mechanical
functions may be a bit “stiff”. Stiffness in operation will reduce after some “break-in” use.
Troubles likely to be encountered, together with probable causes and corrective actions are
listed in Table 1002. Refer to paragraph 3, Electrical System Troubleshooting and Figures
2001 thru 2005 for aids in fault isolation.

3. Electrical System Troubleshooting
A. General.
The system contained on the Air China A340-300 Model 8800 single seats consist of the
following items per seat: (1) Controller Box, (1) Recline (Rotary) Actuators, (1) Legrest
Actuators, (2) Drop-down Armrest Actuators, (1) Lumbar Units, (1) Motor Actuator
Harnesses and (1) DCI/Aux Harness.
The system is powered by 115 VAC, 400 Hz. All of the actuators receive their power from
the 856030-413 Controller Box.
All of the actuators can be programmed to prescribed upright and fully deployed
dimensions without the use of a “laptop” PC or any other special tools.
There is no programming necessary for the 856800-401 Lumbar Unit.

NOTE The seats leave the Weber Aircraft production facility already programmed
according to the Aircraft Installation for the CCA A340-300 program. Therefore,
no programming of the seat should be necessary until an actuator or controller
box on the seat assembly requires changing.
B. Individual Components.
(1) Controller Box. (Refer to Figure 8001)
(a) The controller box (856030-413) is the central control unit for all of the motor/
actuators and also the power supply for all of the motor/actuators.
(b) Because all of the motor/actuators are connected to the controller box, the
controller box is a possible solution to all problems involved with the electrical
system. But is also the last one that should be replaced to try and solve a
problem.
(c) During an investigation of a problem, please verify that all of the connections
between the controller box and a faulty unit are complete.
NOTE When checking wiring and connectors, please check for individual
pins that are not inserted correctly. Replacement of the controller
box, due to a failure in the operation of one of the motor actuators,
will be discussed in the following sections.
(d) After replacing any of the motor/actuator units (except for the Air Lumbar
Unit), the following steps shall be followed when re-programming a seat to the
desired full upright and full deployed positions.
1 Apply 115 VAC power to the control box, (Refer to Figure 8001)
5 Using the manual override controls, set the legrest, armrest and back
recline to the desired fully stowed position.
6 Push the recessed programming button, located between J2 and J31,

on the back of the control box one time, (Refer to Figure 8001)
7 On the main passenger control units, push the takeoff/landing or full

upright pre-position switch one time.
8 Push the recessed programming button, located between J2 and J31,

on the back of the control box one time, (Refer to Figure 8001)
9 Using the manual override controls, set the legrest, armrest and back
recline to the desired fully deployed position. (Refer to Figures 8002,
8003 and 8004)
10 On the main passenger control unit, push the bed or fully deployed
pre-position switch one time.

11 Push the recessed programming button, located between J2 and J31

on the back of the control box one time. Verify, by operating the motor/
actuators electrically, that all of the motor/actuators were correctly
programmed to the desired fully stowed and fully deployed positions.
12 The system is now in the normal operational mode. Confirm that the
programmed settings are correct by electrically operating the seat to
each limitation.
(2) Air Lumbar Unit.
(a) The Air Lumbar feature is composed of two parts: The 1) Control Unit
(856033-401, 285 IPL Fig. 7) and the 2) Lumbar Bladder Assembly (856034-
401, 295, IPL Fig. 7).
(b) The first thing to determine, on a problem associated with the Air Lumbar Unit,
is whether or not the air pump is functioning. When the "Lumbar Out or
Deploy" or "Lumbar Up" or "Lumbar Down" switch is pushed, on the
Passenger Control, the operation of the pump motor can be detected audibly.
If the pump motor is not operational, connect a replacement unit into the
system at this location.
NOTE Do not physically replace the unit at this time. If the replacement unit
operates correctly, replace the faulty unit with the replacement unit.
If the replacement unit does not operate, the problem is located
elsewhere in the system.
NOTE When checking wiring and connectors, please check for individual
pins that are not inserted correctly. If the harnesses are all correct,
the problem probably is with the Controller Box. After the Controller
Box is replaced, follow the steps listed in paragraph 3.B.(1) for re-
programming of the Controller Box.
(c) If the air pump is operating continuously, but the bladder never totally inflates;
then there are three possible problems. 1) A hole in the bladder, 2) A hole in
the air tube that routes the air from the pump to the bladder or 3) one of the
air tube connections has become disengaged.
(d) If the air pump stop operating prior to the bladder becoming totally inflated;
check the air tubes for a "kink" or pinch point.

(e) During a "Lumbar In or Stow" function the pump motor does not operate. A
valve in the box opens and allows the air to escape the air bladders.
(f) There is no programming of the Controller Box required for any of the
functions of the Air Lumbar Unit.
(3) Recline, Armrest and Legrest Actuator. (Refer to Figures 8002, 8003 and 8004)
(a) The Recline Actuator (856032-401, 80, IPL Fig. 7) is the motor/actuator that
moves the padded back assembly to the "passenger desired" position. The
Legrest Actuator (856031-401, 130, IPL Fig. 7) is the motor/actuator that
rotates the padded legrest assembly to the "passenger desired" position. The
Drop-down Armrest Actuator (856031-405, 140, IPL Fig. 7) is the motor/
actuator that positions the armrest assembly to the "passenger desired"
position.
(a) The operation of these motor actuators is controlled by the 856030-413

Controller Box and is activated by the passenger control unit. The following
steps should be followed to determine the problem if a Recline, Legrest or
Armrest Actuator fails to operate.
1 Check and insure that there is a proper power connection to the seat
and that the circuit breaker on the back of the controller box is
engaged (pushed in).
2 If both of these items are in place, check to insure that the connection
between the wiring harness and the controller box is correct.
3 If this item is correct, check the connection between the harness and
the recline motor/actuator.
4 If this connection is correct, then connect a spare recline actuator at

this junction.
NOTE Do not physically replace the unit at this time. After making this
connection, manually move the shaft of the actuator to
approximately the midpoint of the stroke of the actuator by using the
manual override lever located on the actuator. After this is
completed, attempt to activate the motor/actuator electrically by
closing the proper switch on the passenger control unit.
5 If the motor/actuator operates correctly, remove the faulty motor/

actuator and install the replacement motor/actuator. After
replacement of the new motor/actuator, reprogram the affected
passenger place to the correct fully stowed and fully deployed
positions by following the steps listed in paragraph 3.B.(1).

6 If the Passenger control switch is functioning correctly, replace the

Controller Box. After replacing the Controller Box, both passengers
places assigned to this particular Controller Box will have to be
reprogrammed for the correct upright and fully deployed positions.
(Refer to paragraph 3.B.(1)).
(4) DCI Assembly.
(a) The DCI Assembly (856039-401, 230, IPL Fig. 7) is the device that converts
the signals that are generated from the passenger control switches into data
that is used by the controller to complete specific actions contained in the seat
actuation system.
(b) If there are problems with the seat actuation system not operating at all or if
there is an incorrect operation associated with a specific switch activation; the
problem could be within the DCI Assembly. To verify that the problem is with
the DCI Assembly; replace the unit with a spare part to see if the incorrect
operation is now functioning correctly. If the results are the same, the problem
is probably located in either the passenger control switch, the associated
harnesses or the control box.

DISASSEMBLY
1. General
A. Use of these instructions is limited to the extent necessary to correct a malfunction or

incorporate a modification. Accomplish test procedure detailed in TESTING AND
FAULT ISOLATION prior to any disassembly. If requirements of test cannot be attained,
disassemble only as necessary to accomplish corrective action required to return unit to
a serviceable and reliable status.
B. Partial repair of some assemblies may be performed without removing the particular
assembly from the aircraft.
C. Complete disassembly of the seat is neither anticipated nor recommended. Remove

only those parts required to gain access to those worn or damaged part(s) requiring
replacement. To assist in disassembly, a frame or fixture to simulate the related aircraft
floor mounting provisions is recommended.
D. Proceed with disassembly as outlined below, referring to the exploded-view illustrations

in the ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST portion of this manual, noting that attaching parts are
listed immediately following the parts which they attach.
NOTE: Carefully examine all riveted, spot-welded and bonded or cemented

assemblies prior to disassembly. Do not disassemble unless damaged. If
replacement is required, refer to the applicable portions of REPAIR for detailed
instructions.
CAUTION: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF RIVNUTS STRETCHES AND

WEAKENS STRUCTURE SURFACES; REMOVE AND REPLACE
RIVNUTS ONLY IF LOOSE OR IF THREAD CLEANUP OR CHASING
FAILS TO EFFECT AN ADEQUATE REPAIR. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT
TO DAMAGE ADJACENT STRUCTURE DURING ANY NECESSARY
OPERATIONS ON RIVETED OR SWAGED PARTS.
2. Disassembly Procedures
A. Model 8800 First Class Single Seat Assembly. (See IPL Figure 1)
(1) Remove dress appearance items and cushions. Set aside in a clean dry area with
protective covering.
(2) Refer to DISASSEMBLY paragraph 2.C for instructions pertaining to headrest

(140), 2.B for armrest structure assembly (155), 2.D for legrest structure assembly
(200), 2.E for bottom pan assembly (420), 2.F for back assembly (425) and 2.G for
electrical installation (680 thru 690C).
B. Armrest Structure Assembly. (See IPL Figure 2)
(1) Remove pivot block assembly (40), pivot assembly (60), roller (85), wire retainer
(95) and pivot link assembly (120) by removing applicable attaching parts.

C. Headrest Assembly. (See IPL Figure 3)
(1) Remove side plate (5), ratcheting hinge assembly (25), hinge assembly (45, 45A),
front plate (105), headrest pivot bracket (140) and spacer (165) by removing
applicable attaching parts.
D. Legrest Structure Assembly. (See IPL Figure 4)
(1) Remove lanyard (15). Remove parts as necessary.
E. Seat Bottom Pan Assembly. (See IPL Figure 5)
(1) Remove tube assembly (15), swivel assembly (30), rear clamp (75), actuator clamp
(95, 95A), wire retainer (125), weld assembly (205), weldment (220) and motor
mount (235) by removing applicable attaching parts.

(1) Remove straps (5, 5A), spacers (10, 10A) and tie holders (15, 15A). Remove split
tubing (25). Remove harnesses (30, 35). electric connectors (40 thru 40B), rotary
actuator (80), legrest actuator (130), armrest actuator (140), ground strap (155),
digital control unit (230) control box (45), raceway assembly (235) TTL switch
assembly (210) and retainer (260, 260A) by removing applicable attaching parts.

CLEANING
1. General
A. Thorough cleaning is an essential prelude to any close inspection to determine

existence of, extent of, and exact location of defects. Cleaning also removes
accumulations and deposits of residue which can adversely affect performance of the
equipment.
NOTE: Recommended cleaning agents are listed in Table 4001. Suitable substitutes
or equivalents may be used after appropriate tests are made to ensure
equivalent agents do not react with area being cleaned.

2. Cleaning Procedures
A. Non-Upholstered Parts
(1) Clean plastic or naugahyde surfaces by wiping with a damp cloth.
WARNING: ALIPHATIC NAPHTHA IS FLAMMABLE. USE ONLY IN A WELL-

VENTILATED AREA AND AWAY FROM OPEN FLAME. AVOID
PROLONGED OR REPEATED CONTACT WITH SKIN OR INHALATION
OF VAPORS. USE STANDARD SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR
HANDLING FLAMMABLE MATERIAL.
(2) Clean metal parts with Aliphatic Naphtha specified in Table 4001. Dry with a clean,
lint-free cloth or allow to air dry.
(3) Remove any stains or deposits on non-electrical metal parts not removed by
Aliphatic Naphtha with a cloth moistened with Acetone (refer to Table 4001).
(4) Remove any signs of corrosion with corrosion removing compound (refer to Table
4001).
B. Upholstery
CAUTION: SEAT COVERS MUST BE DRY CLEANED ONLY. REMOVAL OF SMALL

STAINS, ETC. IS COVERED IN STEPS (1) THRU (4) BELOW.
COMPLETE CLEANING IS COVERED IN STEPS (3) AND
SUBSEQUENT.
(1) Vacuum upholstery thoroughly or brush with a medium stiff bristle upholstery or
clothes brush. Do not pound or beat upholstered covers as this does not effectively
clean the upholstery and can hasten its wear.
(2) Remove dry or water-borne soil with concentrated detergent preparations,

commonly called upholstery shampoo. Mix upholstery shampoo as directed on
container and apply to a small area (approximately one square foot) with a small
clean brush. Liberal application will assist in loosening deep-seated dirt. Steam
may also be used to assist in removing the stain.
WARNING: USE SOLVENT-TYPE CLEANING AGENTS IN WELL-

VENTILATED AREA. AVOID BREATHING SOLVENT VAPORS AND
PROLONGED SOLVENT CONTACT WITH SKIN. OBSERVE
APPROPRIATE FIRE PRECAUTIONS.
(3) Oil-type grease spots are best removed with solvent-type cleaning fluid such as
DuPont Dry Cleaner (refer to Table 4001) or with solvent impregnated Powderene
powder (refer to Table 4001). Test material to be cleaned by first applying cleaning
agent to a small inconspicuous area of the material. Use cleaning agents sparingly,
without saturating fabric, to avoid spotting and damage. Apply cleaning agent with
a soft clean cloth and avoid spreading any stains by working from outer edges
toward center of stain.

(4) After using upholstery shampoo or solvent-type cleaning agent, roll a clean, turkish
towel, or other absorbent cloth, into a cylindrical shape and wipe off detergent and
dirt. Rotate rolled cloth frequently to present a clean section to the fabric surface.
NOTE: Dirt and soil are absorbed or transferred to the clean towel from the fabric.
Vigorous rubbing may be required to obtain even soil removal and to
avoid spotty or blotchy appearance after drying.
(5) Prepare seat covers for dry cleaning by covering all “velcro” hook tape with
corresponding pile tape. Heavy stains should be pretreated as outlined in steps (2)
and (3) above. Turn seat covers inside out during actual dry cleaning procedure.
CAUTION: TO AVOID SHRINKAGE AND LOSS OF FLAME RESISTANCE,

SEAT COVERS MUST NEVER BE WASHED. USE ONLY
APPROVED DRY CLEANING METHODS.
(6) Dry clean seat covers in Perchloroethylene or Stoddard solvent with addition of 1/
2% commercial detergent activator. (Refer to Table 4001). Use activator per
manufacturer’s instructions. Use cleaning solvent cold in room temperature drum.
NOTE: Water content of cleaning solution must not exceed 0.8%. If water content
exceeds this proportion, there is possibility of fabric shrinkage.
(7) Dry seat covers with maximum temperature of incoming air at 55°C (130°F). After
completion of dry cleaning process, waterbound stains can be removed
secondarily with steam and detergent preparations as outlined in step (2) above.
C. Leather Seat Covers
(1) Regular cleaning can be done simply by using a damp cloth, taking care not to soak
the leather. Wring out a soft cloth in soap suds (mild toilet soap and never a
detergent). Apply to the surface of the leather in a light, circular motion until the dirty
parts are clean. Repeat this procedure with clean cloth and clean water.
CAUTION: DO NOT use saddle soap or wax polishes.
DO NOT use any spray polishes that contain silicone. Silicone will
produce an unpleasant, sticky surface.
DO NOT use any cleaning fluid which does not specifically state that
it can be used on leather.
(2) Proprietary products, made by leather manufacturers, are available. These neutral
creams or waxes are designed to restore the original sheen. These should not be
used until the leather has first been cleaned with a damp clean cloth as outlined in
step (1) above.

INSPECTION/CHECK
1. General
NOTE Establish requirements of any service bulletins applicable to this equipment. During
check, determine which service bulletins, if any, are to be incorporated.
Replace, with a serviceable part, any part that fails to meet the requirements of check. If
defective part is repairable, note defect and assign part for repair.
2. Inspection/Check
NOTE Conduct checks under a bright light. Use a 5X to 7X power magnifying glass to
detect surface flaws.
A. Visually check that all parts are clean and free of cracks, corrosion, deterioration, and
obvious signs of damage.
B. Check security of all clamps and straps securing leads and all other parts not removed
during disassembly.
C. Visually check all threaded parts for crossed or damaged threads. Reject part if thread
damage exceeds 50% of one thread.
NOTE If damage to any one thread is 50% or less, note defect and assign part for
repair.
D. Check sewn seams for fraying or separation and fabric for fraying, scuffing and rips.
E. Check attaching bolts, nuts, screws and pins for tightness and floor attaching fittings for
wear or deformation.
F. Check helicoil inserts for damage and security of installation.
G. Check structural parts including clips, brackets and machined parts for damage, cracks
and sharp nicks.
NOTE Burrs are defined as material raised above the normal surface, which if not
removed would prevent complete and proper mating of parts and sealing
surfaces. Where nicks or scratches allow bare metal to show through a
protective finish, note defect and assign part for repair. Dents or other damage
must not impair finish or functional operation of any part.
H. Check paint and finishes for chipping and worn spots, and note condition of bonding on
parts and assemblies.
I. Check nameplate and placards for legibility and secure attachment.

J. Check seat belts for damaged or worn parts. Seat belts should be replaced within a
seven year service period.
NOTE Slight wear of the webbing is permitted however, excessive web wear that has
progressed to cut or worn edges must be replaced. Refer to following criteria
to make this determination.
(1) A limited amount of “frayed” webbing will retain sufficient strength necessary to
meet the required strength. Frayed webbing is defined as broken filaments from
either the warp (longitudinal) yarns or the filler (transverse) yarns. The number of
broken filaments should not be sufficient to obscure the identity of any yarn when
viewed from a distance of about 8 inches.
(2) Any web that is cut or torn deeper than .10 inches on the edge.
(3) The amount of fray should be limited to an amount that is less than 10% of the width
of the webbing and not to exceed 8 inches in length.
(4) Webbing with more than 15 broken yarns in locations other than the edge.
(5) Webbing that is frayed or distorted sufficiently to cause improper operation of any
portion of the restraint system.
(6) Webbing has more than 15 stitches torn in a stitch pattern.
(7) Seat belt markings are illegible.
K. Check cushions for wear and damage to fireblock and dress cover. Repair if there are
rips, gaps or loose seams. Cushions should be replaced at two year intervals to
guarantee maximum comfort.
CAUTION Cushions must be replaced if they feel unstable (loose pieces, brittle, etc.).
3. Scheduled Inspections/Checks
Conduct scheduled inspections/checks in accordance with Tables 5001 & 5002.
NOTE Check all adjustments detailed in FITS, CLEARANCES AND ADJUSTMENT

1. General
A. Repair of the seat assemblies is generally limited to those repairs that can be effected
by standard shop practices. Major structural repairs are to be avoided since the safety-
integrity of the seat can be compromised by improper disassembly and assembly of
major structural components.

A. Metal Surfaces
(1) Polish out minor nicks and scratches on steel surfaces with crocus cloth. Polish out
minor nicks and scratches on aluminum parts with 600 to 800 grit aluminum oxide
abrasive cloth. Every effort shall be made to polish out nicks and scratches without
removing protective surfaces. Clean sanded areas as directed in paragraph 2.A,
CLEANING.
(2) Treat all corroded areas with corrosion preventive petrolatum.
B. Thermoformed Plastic Shrouds
(1) The plastic shrouds are Royalite material. A characteristic texture is also
impressed on the appearance surface. These parts may be distorted by reheating
to 300° to 315°F (148 to 157°C).
(2) “Like-new” repair of plastic shrouds is not possible because the repaired areas will
require refinishing with paint which has different wear characteristics than the
original shroud material. In addition, the surface texture will be changed in the
repaired area and restoration is difficult or even impossible to achieve.
(3) Shrouds which are broken into two or more pieces should be discarded unless a
fixture is devised as an external mold so that part shape will be retained during
repair reinforcement procedures outlined below.
(4) Remove shroud from substructure using care not to damage or deform the parts.
If shroud is bonded to substructure, a hot air gun may be used to soften the
adhesive bond line. Use care not to exceed 150°F (65°C) shroud temperature and
not to deform the shroud while hot. Remove adhesive with Isopropyl Alcohol or
Aliphatic Naphtha.

CAUTION: PLASTIC SHROUDS ARE DISSOLVED BY KETONES. USE ONLY

ALIPHATIC NAPHTHA OR ALCOHOLS AS CLEANING
SOLVENTS.
(5) Clean shroud surfaces using a warm detergent solution, 3% detergent in warm
water at 120°F (48°C). Rinse thoroughly with clear water and dry.
(6) Where necessary, reinforce inside surface of shroud in damaged area as follows:
(a) Roughen an area at least one inch larger than damaged area with 80 grit
abrasive cloth.
(b) Wipe bond area with Isopropyl Alcohol using clean, oil-free wiper.
(c) Coat bond area with 126 Epocast (Table 6002) adhesive.
(d) Laminate one layer of glass cloth to bond area.
(e) Coat glass cloth with epoxy and remove entrapped air bubbles with a roller or
squeegee.
(f) Continue laminating layers of glass cloth and epoxy resin until desired
thickness is attained. Limit the reinforcement to that thickness which will
permit reinstallation of reinforced shroud on its substructure. The necessary
number of glass cloth reinforcements may be determined as follows:

(7) Repair the appearance surface as follows:
(a) Remove any excess epoxy from reinforcing operation by sanding smooth and
level.
(b) Clean repaired surface with Isopropyl Alcohol.
(c) Fill any surface irregularities with catalyzed polyester resin filler. Catalyze only
the amount which will be immediately used since the material will begin to
harden within five minutes. An automotive body repair surfacing putty may be
used as an alternate fill material.
(d) Level fill with spatula or putty knife before filler hardens and restore texture by
stippling with a stiff-bristled brush. Texture match is achieved through trial and
error.
(e) After filler has fully hardened (10 to 15 minutes), sand area lightly to blend
repair into adjacent areas.
(8) Paint shroud using standard procedures with color matching touch-up paint. Cure
painted coating as required.
(9) Install shroud on substructure using a contact adhesive in areas where originally
adhered as follows:
(a) Coat both surfaces on bond areas with contact adhesive.
(b) Allow solvents to escape from adhesive before closing assembly. Assembly is
ready to close when adhesive is almost dry with a slight tack remaining.
(c) Press shroud firmly to substructure in bond areas.
C. Bonding
(1) Decals which have been removed are not repairable. To replace with a new decal,
dampen a clean, lint-free cloth in alcohol. Clean mating surfaces of dirt, grit and old
adhesive. Replace with new decal using adhesive EC2262. On decals too thin to
use additional adhesive, just use the preapplied adhesive.
(2) To remove grommets, pads and panels cemented to structure, apply Toluene to
edges of adhesive to soften adhesive, then pry the part free from structure. Prior to
installing new grommets, pads, or panels to structure, sand surface to remove all
traces of scale, dirt, oxides, oils and old adhesive, then wipe with a clean cloth
dampened in Aliphatic Naphtha. To cement grommets, pads and panels, apply a
coat of adhesive to both surfaces with a clean, lint-free cloth which is slightly
dampened with Toluene. Immediately press both surfaces together and allow to air-
dry for 24 hours.

(3) To bond metal assemblies, clean surfaces with Acetone. To bond plastic
assemblies, clean surface with Aliphatic Naphtha. Spread a thin, even coat on one
of the parts to be bonded with a brush or spray. Allow adhesive to dry for 20 to 30
minutes. Press parts firmly together, using weights or clamps, as necessary, to
accelerate drying and curing time, subject assembly to heat at 150°F (65.5°C) for
one hour.
D. Rivets
Permissible limitations on size of rivet holes, where rivets were drilled out on
disassembly, are controlled by standard shop-practice use of oversized replacement
rivets.
NOTE: The minimum pitch and edge distances for rivets are determined by the original
design and should be closely observed during repair.
E. Welding
(1) To replace damaged spot-welded or tack-welded parts, cut away spot or tack in the
damaged part by spot-facing.
CAUTION: CAREFULLY AVOID CUTTING INTO METAL OF AN ADJOINING PART,

SPOT OR TACK WELD REPLACEMENT PART TO UNDAMAGED PART
BETWEEN OLD SPOTS OR TACKS, AS SPECIFIED IN APPLICABLE
DETAIL STEP IN THIS PARAGRAPH.
(2) Spot-welding shall be accomplished in accordance with Specification MIL-W-6858

with two or four spots at a minimum edge distance of 0.25 inch (0.63 cm).
F. Fireblocking Covers
CAUTION: There are two methods of accomplishing cover repair, sewing or bonding.
Sewing is the preferred method.
(1) Sew Repair. Sew patch in place with MIL-T-44100, Size T-50 Aramid thread per
Federal Specification 751, Type 301, 7-9 stitches per inch (2.54 cm).
(2) Bond Repair. Bond patch in place with NS230W adhesive with 1.0 inch minimum
overlap. Tack patch with MIL-T-44100, Size T-50 Aramid thread, minimum 0.5 inch
(1.27 cm) spacing.
NOTE: Bonding method (2) shall be used on backs only. Fabric to be same as fire
blocking covers.
For areas with unusual wear points, sew on a layer of fireblocking fabric
using MIL-T-44100, Size T-50 Aramid thread per Federal Standard 751,
Type 301, 7-9 stitches per inch (2.54 cm).

ASSEMBLY
1. General
A. During assembly, always use new low-cost items, such as cotter pins, screws, washers,
nuts, grommets, tie-straps, etc., when possible to prevent future maintenance
requirements due to failure of these items. Prior to initiating assembly procedures,
inspect all parts for wear and/or damage which could result in failure of the seat
assembly or any of its component assemblies.
B. Table 7001 provides recommended materials to be used during assembly procedures.

These items are frequently classified as “bulk materials” since lengths and sizes
required are determined by particular usage and application.
NOTE: Ensure that all bottom cushions are installed correctly. Cushions must be held
at an angle with the aft portion placed under the back cushion assembly, then
gently lower and push forward end of bottom cushion down into place
(bottomed on front tube assembly).

(1) Install DSUB retainer (260), raceway assembly (245), digital control unit (230), TTL
switch assembly (210), switch bracket (190), ground strap (155), legrest actuator
(130), armrest actuator (140) and rotary actuator (80) using applicable attaching
parts.
(1) Install lumbar bladder (295) between back filler cushion and back cushion.
(2) Install harness (30, 35) and secure using tie holder (15), spacer (10) and straps (5).
NOTE Do not install split tubing (25) on the segments of harnesses (30, 35)
within the raceway assembly (245).

(1) Install mount motor (235), weldment (220), weld assembly (205) wire retainer
(125), actuator clamp (95, 95A), rear clamp (75), swivel assembly (30) and tube
assembly (15) using applicable attaching parts.
NOTE Install actuator before installing collars (185). Collars must be installed
against bearing (260) in spreader. Apply Loctite 609 or equivalent (See
Table 9001) to bearings (160, 260) before press fitting.
NOTE Install actuator before tightening screws (240). Use Loctite 272 (See
Table 9001) on screw threads before installation.
(2) Torque track rollers (200) to 235 to 240 in-lbs (26.55 to 27.12 NM).
D. Legrest Structure Assembly. (See IPL Figure 4)
(1) Install lanyard (15). Install screw (25), washer (30) and nut (35) onto frame
assembly (65) Apply velcro (40 thru 55) as indicated in IPL Figure 4.
E. Headrest Assembly. (See IPL Figure 3)
(1) Install spacer (165), headrest pivot bracket (140), front plate (105), hinge assembly
(45, 45A), ratcheting hinge assembly (25) and side plate (5) using applicable
attaching parts.
F. Armrest Structure Assembly. (See IPL Figure 2)
(1) Install pivot link (120), wire retainer (95), roller (85), pivot assembly (60) and pivot
block assembly (40) using applicable attaching parts.

3. Storage Procedures
A. General
The seat assemblies are essentially corrosion-resistant and no special preservation is

required other than would normally be accorded to an item having trim and finish items
visible to the passengers.
B. Procedures
(1) Wrap seat assembly in waterproof wrapping paper (Federal Specification

UU-P-271) or equivalent, or a plastic cover. Use tape (Federal Specification
JAN-P-127) or equivalent, to secure wrapping paper or cover.
(2) Identify seat assembly part number and date of overhaul on a tag, or in a
convenient location on the seat assembly wrapper.
(3) Store seat assembly in cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat source at a
temperature range from 4°C to 32°C (40°F to 90°F). The relative humidity should
not exceed 50%. These temperature-humidity conditions meet requirements of
RTCA/DO-160D (Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne
Equipment) to protect any sensitive electronic equipment, and reduce any possible
corrosion of metal parts and mildewing of upholstery materials.

FITS, CLEARANCES AND ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES

Fits, clearances and adjustment procedures for the seat assembly are given in this section.
2. Adjustment Procedures
A. Back, Armrest and Legrest Electrical Adjustment.
NOTE: Upon application of power to the control box, the system is automatically
switched to the operational mode. This mode allows for normal operation of all
motors/actuators. The actuators are not to be electrically operated prior to this
programming. To program the full upright and fully deployed positions the
following steps must be completed in sequence.
(1) Apply 115 VAC power to the control box, (Refer to Figure 8001)
(2) Using the manual override controls, set the legrest, armrest and back recline to the
desired fully stowed position.
(3) Push the recessed programming button, located between J2 and J31, on the back
of the control box one time, (Refer to Figure 8001)
(4) On the main passenger control units, push the takeoff/landing or full upright pre-
position switch one time.

A. FIG. ITEM Column
(1) The first number at the top of each FIG. ITEM column is the figure number of the
exploded-view illustration. The number given opposite each part number is the item
number assigned to the part in the illustration.
(2) A dash (-) in front of an item number means the part is not illustrated.
(3) Alpha-variants A through Z (except I and O) are assigned to item numbers when
necessary to identify added parts, alternate parts, and parts modified by service
bulletins.
B. PART NUMBER Column
This column gives the part number of the manufacturer for each part, as modified to
meet the requirements of ATA 200/2000. The modifications can include:

VOLUMN 2
1. General
This section lists, describes, and illustrates all component assemblies, subassemblies, and
parts required for maintenance of the seat assembly.
2. Scope of Information
A. General
Each assembly is listed and immediately followed by a listing of its detail parts. The
listing is indentured to show the relationship between each part and its next higher
assembly. Item numbers in the parts list correspond to the item numbers of the
accompanying illustration (figure).
B. How to Identify a Part
(1) When the part number is known: Find the part number in the numerical index and
note the figure and item number. Find the item number in the applicable parts list
and illustration to get the necessary information. The search function on the
interactive (electronic) version of this manual can also be used to locate the known
part number.
(2) When the part number is not known: Review the illustrations to identify the part by
physical appearance and location. Refer to the accompanying parts list to get the
part number, nomenclature, effectivity, and quantity.
(3) The effectivity code shows the part usage relative to the next higher assembly.
When the EFFECTIVITY CODE column is blank, the part usage applies to all next-
higher-assembly versions unless otherwise specified in the NOMENCLATURE
column.
3. Equipment Designator Index
The Equipment Designator Index (if applicable) is an aid to find the parts in the Detail Parts
List by equipment designator. The equipment designator, the part number, the figure number,
and the item number are given for each entry.
The equipment designator are sorted one character at a time, from left to right. The correct
sequence is (1) dash, (2) letters A through Z, and (3) numerals 0 through 9.
4. Numerical Index

5. Explanation of Detail Parts List Entries
The Detail Parts List is arranged in general sequence of disassembly. The parts are
illustrated in an exploded-view illustration and listed in the related parts list.
A. FIG. ITEM Column
(1) The first number at the top of each FIG. ITEM column is the figure number of the
exploded-view illustration. The number given opposite each part number is the item
number assigned to the part in the illustration.
(2) A dash (-) in front of an item number means the part is not illustrated.
(3) Alpha-variants A through Z (except I and O) are assigned to item numbers when
necessary to identify added parts, alternate parts, and parts modified by service
bulletins.
B. PART NUMBER Column
This column gives the part number of the manufacturer for each part, as modified to
meet the requirements of ATA 200/2000. The modifications can include:
(1) Removal of blank spaces and special characters, with the possible exception of
dashes. Dashes are permitted only between numeric characters.
(2) Insertion of a reference part number compatible with ATA 200/2000 if the part
number is longer than 15 characters. In these cases, the full part number is given
in the NOMENCLATURE column.
C. INDENTure Column
The indenture column is used to show the relationship of one part to another as found
on the original engineering drawings. A typical indenture relationship is as follows:

D. NOMENCLATURE Column
(1) This column contains descriptive nomenclature for each part, and can also give the
CAGE code of the manufacturer (if the part is not made by Weber Aircraft LLC.),
the part number (if it is longer than 15 digits or modified to ATA 200/2000), any
service bulletin that affect the part, and any obsolete part numbers. The column
also provides figure references for NHA and details, and additional descriptive
information as required.
(2) Assemblies, subassemblies, and detail parts subjected to modification, deletion,

addition, or replacement by an issued service bulletin are annotated to indicate
both the pre- and post-service bulletin configurations. The term (PRE SB XXXX) in
the NOMENCLATURE column identifies the original configuration, and the term
(POST SB XXXX) identifies assemblies and parts after the modification has been
completed.
(3) The terms defined below are used when applicable to indicate the
interchangeability of parts.

(NHA). The abbreviation RF (reference) means the end item or assembly is shown

The CAGE codes for the manufacturers of the parts, special tools, test equipment, and
materials referenced in the manual are given below. The five digit code is preceded by the

This service bulletin is being generated per customer request.
C. Description
This service bulletin provides instructions to install (in the controller) a new data table in the
Z295H8105305 Controller. The new data table provides PWM compatibility with all 856032---401
recline motors. This SB applies to all Z295H8105305 Controllers. The change is recommended
at customer earliest convenience. Part numbers do not change. This SB does not change the
warranty of the seat controller assembly.

D. Approval
The seats as modified by this service bulletin continue to meet the requirements of TSO-C127.
Approval of the installation aspects of the seat assembly as modified by this service bulletin is the
responsibility of the installer.
Under seat TSO approval, optional equipment (IFE, Telephones, etc.) is approved only for that
equipment’s mass attributes and means of attachment to the seat. All other attributes of the
optional equipment are outside the scope of the seat TSO approval. It is the responsibility of the
installer of the seat into the aircraft to obtain the necessary approval and to insure
that optional equipment installed on the seat does not violate the TSO approval.

2. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
A. See the applicable reference from the above References section for disassembly and assembly
instructions and component identification not shown in this service bulletin.
B. The seats to be modified must be inspected for serviceability prior to modification. Seat integrity
after modification must meet or exceed the condition prior to modification.
C. All nonmetallic material shall meet the flame resistance requirements of 14 CFR 25.853(a) (AMDT.
25---83) unless otherwise noted.
D. It is recommended that the seat not be disassembled any further than is absolutely necessary to
accomplish instructions listed in this document.
3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A. Disassembly
(1) Remove and retain parts to gain access to the seat controller.
(2) Connect the adapter cable between the COM1 port and on the PC and J32 on the seat
controller. See Figure 1.
(3) Start the PC. Ensure the data table files are loaded on the PC, or insert the disk with the files
in the appropriate drive.
B. Controller Table Installation
(1) Start the Table Writer 430 application on the PC.
(2) Go to the file menu on the PC. Ensure communication has been established between the
PC and the controller. If communication has not been established, check the cable
connections and restart the Table Writer 430 tool.
(3) If the download sequence is completed with no errors indicated, then the data has been
successfully updated.
C. Remove Test Equipment
(1) Remove the adapter cable from the seat controller.
(2) After the data table has been updated, proceed to 3.D.
D. Label Installation
(1) Install the pre---printed data table label over the existing label. See Figure 1. Do not cover
any other labels on the seat controller.
E. Retest
(1) Follow the seat manufacturers procedures to return seat to normal operations.
(2) Follow the seat manufacturers procedures to operate the seat through its complete range of
motions.

4. REIDENTIFICATION
(1) Using the new 840304---25 modification nameplate provided in each kit, apply the following:
S appropriate part number

S date of modification and revision level of service bulletin
S serial number (as taken from the original nameplate)
S repair station number
S modification number
S modified by (organization doing the modification)
(2) Apply the new nameplate to the seat baseframe as close to the original nameplate as
possible. (Do not remove or mutilate the original nameplate.)
(3) Place clear mylar tape over nameplate to prevent damage.

7800 and 8800 Seat Models
REVISION: Initial Release
Note: The only acceptable units will be Rev. level ”F”, as noted on the label shown in Figure 5.
(Disregard any Revision Level information found on the Stock Identification Label on the bottom of the
DCI unit). All units with revision levels prior to ”F” must be replaced and returned.
A. The purpose of this SIL is to provide for the change of the Digital Control Interfaced (DCI) units
on Weber Model 7800 and 8800 seats to a newer revision level. The newer revision units contain
new hardware that will make the units more reliable in operation. The revision level of the DCI
units to be installed is revision “F”. Any unit containing a revision level prior to revision “F” shall
be removed. Installation shall be done in accordance to Figures 1 thru 4.
B. After the completion of the installation of the “F” revision of the DCI unit, a verification test shall
be conducted on each seat to verify seats function correctly. This can be accomplished by
actuating each of the selections on the PCU to insure that all function.
C. The serial numbers of all DCI units that are removed installed shall be recorded and a copy of
this information shall be made available to Air China, Weber Aircraft LP and Crane Aerospace.
D. All of the units that have been removed shall be returned to Crane Aerospace at:
