Salary Range: $110,468 to $119,219 plus 15.4% superannuation

The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) is an independent statutory office established by the Fair
Work Act 2009. Our role is to promote harmonious, productive and cooperative workplace
relations and ensure compliance with Australian workplace laws. We are valued by the
community for supporting compliant, productive and inclusive Australian workplaces and we
deliver practical workplace relations advice and assistance.

The Technology Branch delivers business solutions to the Fair Work Ombudsman. This covers
bespoke development, integration and configuration of commercial off-the-shelf software and
shared services.

Current platforms include Microsoft 365, Azure, elcomCMS, bespoke Microsoft .Net and more.
Infrastructure and hosting is provided under a Memorandum of Understanding with Department
of Education, Skills and Employment.

We are currently seeking a highly self-motivated Assistant Director to undertake the role of
Project Manager to deliver IT projects/programs within the agency. Project Managers are
required to use the agency’s project management framework.

Typical Duties

The typical duties of the Assistant Director, Project Management include leading a team to:

 Use and promote the FWO Project Management tools and resources, including project
management templates used by the agency
 Adhere to the FWO project reporting framework and identify opportunities to enhance it
 Drive and manage IT projects, including but not limited to the following:
o understand and utilise both waterfall and agile methodologies
o define, plan and manage project scope
o time and cost estimating
o resource planning and management
o developing and managing schedules
o activity planning and sequencing

o develop and manage the project budget by forecasting requirements, preparing
budgets, scheduling expenditures, analysing variances and initiating corrective
actions
o risk and issues analysis and management
o manage, monitor and report progress
o team leadership and mentoring
o strategic influencing and business partnering
o working with vendors – when required
o benefits realisation and post implementation review
o produce documentation as per the FWO Project Management Office guidelines
 Support the project management community of practice and other project managers
 Provide secretariat support (when required) to agency and project committees, and
represent the branch as required

Selection Criteria

 Demonstrated experience in a Project Management role to deliver complex and high risk
projects
 Well-developed leadership and people management expereicne, including the ability to
manage staff across georgrpahic locations
 Sound understanding of project management (particularly PRINCE2 and DSDM) and the
proven ability to utilise this knowledge
 Proven ability to achieve results and manage competing demands within a dynamic
environment using high level organisation skills
 High level communication skills to ensure prompt, courteous and accurate information is
provided to our clients
 Ability to use to an advanced level, or rapidly acquire use of, the various collaborative
technologies available to us to develop and maintain strong relationships with team
members and with stakeholders

The successful applicant must be willing to travel. Relevant formal qualifications and practical
experience in project management is highly desirable.
