Project proposal for Colombo fashion week
Summer 2021

Project concept
To investigate and understand the distinctive promotional styles which have been
continuously used over the years in the fashion industry.
Fashion designers are brands display their collection and trends in creative styles
when they are exhibiting it to the audience. The research and knowledge
collected will then develop a good understanding and vision for my own ideas for
promoting my work.
My concept would be to have an outdoor show for responsible fashion summer
2021. The proposal is to have the show in a field of rice. The location bring a
wonderful way of displaying new fashion. The location in an actual rice field
western of Sri lank with a horizon cutaway cleaning a path for the models and
with social distanced placements for small amount of guests who can sit on the
side of the raw, this is something that Colombo fashion week has never done
before, this idea would be useful and profitable for them with the current
pandemic
My idea is that the world isn’t actively battling s pandemic and luxury is worth the
indulgence, even in an economic recession. Next summer CFW present new
designers summer 2021 collection via live runaway show complete with socially-
distant audience in a rice field. New CFW app would give it a new experience.
Fashion Show Project Proposal

A concept that is Sri Lankan tradition based, an outdoor event and located in a beautiful village.
Garments will be displayed on models, where you can have a real feel of the garments. This will be an
new experience for Colombo fashion week. One of the most innovative ways to promote merchandise is
through a fashion show. Fashion shows have changed immensely since the 1800s and will continue to
evolve as new technology is discovered. These are required to participate in one of the following
committees:

 Fashion Show Co-Directors

 Model Committee
 Merchandise Committee
 Staging Committee
 Public Relations Committee

Research

Colombo Fashion Week was conceived in 2003 by Ajai Vir Singh. CFW as its popularly known is probably
one of 4 fashion weeks in Asia that is over ten years. CFW showcases two seasons - Spring Summer
(February–March) and Resort annually (September–October). Currently CFW also serves as a hub for
South Asian fashion. Where designers from neighboring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and India
regularly show. Colombo Fashion Week Presented by CFW Holdings for its 12th year this 2015, HSBC
CFW is one of three main fashion shows in Asia that have been running for over 10 years.

Runway Show

A runway show is a production that most people are familiar with and it is an established approach for
designers to display their collection by using live models. A theme, stated location, staging and lighting,
live models, makeup, hair production and music are elements that are very important for a runway
production.

Background Info

Fashion has evolved even quicker than before. During the ancient period, apparels were produced for
comfort and for daily manual work, the wealthy even had restricted resources and dyes were not as
accessible. Fashion is so cyclical; there is even a term for it: Laver’s Law. Fashion historian: James Laver
created the term in the 1930’s to define how quickly trends of the past become “beautiful” again. Laver
claimed that it takes at least half a century for something to become fashionable again. Designers now
look for inspiration and styles that were most fashionable 20 or 30 years ago.

The PR committee is one of the most vital groups to show production. They get the word out about the
show and attract the audiences that are the potential buyers.

Executive summary

Colombo Fashion Week was conceived in 2003 by Ajai Vir Singh. CFW as its
popularly known is probably one of 4 fashion weeks in Asia that is over ten years.
However, without a television technology, its collections cannot sell beyond this
area without digital communication. I am proposing to get connect with fashion
TV which helps them to expand their reach to the rest of Sri Lanka and even an
international market.

I would like to introduce an app for the Colombo fashion week so that people can
get particular collection using a code through the app. And also is a better way to
boost their designer collections or connect with their audience, from consumer’s
phone from anywhere they want using live streaming apps. Would feature an
easily updatable shopping cart with international currency and other features to
provide convenience to local shoppers and engage a wider audience of
fashionable people. I anticipate this app would help all us to connect with CFW
without any trouble.4C

your research

Mobile Live Streaming Apps Solutions is a app design firm based in Sri Lanka.
Apps.lk have a long history of working with retailers, especially retailers in the
fashion space. They are passionate about helping CFW client’s transition into the
digital world and build on their success with accessible and functional apps. a
thanks to mobile phones we can now have communication that can easily be
broadcasted and enjoyed. All the live streaming apps work just fine with any
regular phone camera and microphone, unlike desktop computers and laptops
that require a dedicated webcam and external microphone.
I would like to introduce an app for the Colombo fashion week so that people can

CFW app is available for both Android and iOS operating systems.it is for
professional purposes with high-end video cameras and webcams
The app helps you get notified when the CFW go live or even your friends gets
notification who are also using the platform.
There is something called scanner where you zoom it on an off. There is a
categories to search for streams on different collections, designers etc.
During the broadcast you can post text giving information about the event or
allow comments on the stream which can be merged with other comments left by
viewers. Disabling the microphone means just tapping the microphone button.
Also, there is option to change the front and back camera with a swap button.
