Dear students, parents, and guardians,

Welcome to Angleton ISD, and your XXX grade English Language Arts class! My role in the
education of your students is a great honor, and I am truly looking forward to getting to know
each of my students and their families this year.

In case you’d like to know a little about me—I am an alumna of Brazosport College and
University of Houston. I live in Brazoria with my husband, two dogs, and two cats. I love to
read, write, and play piano when I’m not in our classroom.

Speaking of being in our classroom, I’d like to share three of our classroom procedures so that
our parents and students alike know what to expect in our room!

Be on time and prepared for class. This means bringing all materials with you, as well as
completing and turning in all assignments on time.

Treat others with respect and kindness—both physically and verbally. No hitting, shoving,
pushing, name-calling, etc…

Do your very best!

These three procedures are very important in order to create a positive and engaging space for
learning! While there are other policies in place that we will discuss during class, these are of the
highest priority.

I’d also like to share my grading policy with you. Every assignment will be graded on a scale of
100, and following the district’s letter grade distribution. If I see you working very hard, grades
that are just below the next letter grade will be rounded up—but this will only happen if I see you
applying yourself to the material! I will also provide opportunities for extra credit throughout the
year, if I see a need for them. I will not grade on a curve, so it’s very important that you are
diligent and take responsibility for your own grades.

Regarding late work: assignments should be turned in on time. Each day that an assignment is
late will result in the loss of a letter grade for that assignment. The only exception is if there is a
personal emergency interfering with your ability to do your work; if that is the case, please email
me as soon as you are able in order to explain the situation and get approval for late submissions.

Every policy and guideline in our classroom is designed to create stability and structure for my
students, but I can’t do this without the help of our parents! This is why I encourage you to reach
out if you have questions or concerns about your student’s progress, the environment they’re
learning in, or anything else that you might need to discuss with me. I am here to support you as
much as I am your students.

If you need me, you can reach me at XXX-XXX-XXXX, or email@email.com. Thank you, and
I’m looking forward to the great year ahead of us!
