Essay: Comparing-and-contrasting religious beliefs and superstitions

The world is a planet of variety of people. Different people come from different sociological and
religious backgrounds. Every religion and society have their own beliefs and trends and culture.
People enjoy following their own culture. Superstitions exists in every culture, society and religion. A
superstition is any conviction or practice dependent on one's trust in karma or other unreasonable,
informal, or powerful powers. Frequently, it emerges from obliviousness, a misconception of science
or causality, a confidence in destiny or enchantment, or dread of that which is obscure. It is ordinarily
applied to convictions and works on encompassing karma, prediction, and certain profound creatures,
especially the conviction that future occasions can be anticipated by explicit (obviously) disconnected
earlier events. The word odd superstition is frequently used to allude to a religion not rehearsed by
most of a given society whether or not the common religion contains asserted superstition.

Recently the outbreak of coronavirus or covid 19 has become an epidemic in the entire world. As we
all know coronavirus is a deadly virus killing millions of people in the world. Coronaviruses are a
gathering of related RNA infections that cause maladies in well evolved creatures and feathered
creatures. In people, these infections cause respiratory tract contaminations that can extend from
gentle to deadly. Mellow ailments incorporate a few instances of the regular cold (which is
additionally brought about by different infections, transcendently rhinoviruses), while increasingly
deadly assortments can cause SARS, MERS, and COVID-19. Indications in different species change:
in chickens, they cause an upper respiratory tract sickness, while in bovines and pigs they cause
looseness of the bowels. There are up 'til now no antibodies or antiviral medications to forestall or
treat human coronavirus contaminations. So we can clearly understand how deadly this virus actually
is. There are people of different religions, societies and cultures in the world who have their own
perceptions regarding coronavirus. Some people think China have spread this virus, some think
Americans have a role in this. These are all misconceptions. Apart from these many people say this is
due to atheists, some say this is a sign of judgement day, even some people are telling it will mark the
end of the world. Therefore, it is clearly understandable that people have different religious and
cultural superstitions regarding covid 19 pandemic.

The covid 19 situation of Bangladesh is not very good. The virus has largely affected the country. It is
hampering the economy greatly. Already 55000 people are affected and 760 people have died and
around 12000 have recovered. Many people in our country have different superstition or
misconception regarding the outbreak of coronavirus. In Brahmanbaria, when coronavirus did not
spread, the muslims said that they never drank alcohol and that is why there was no covid outbreak.
Again in Brahmanbaria an Imam died and thousands of people gathered there by not maintaining
social distancing because they believed that in a muslims zanazah, coronavirus cannot affect them.
Another muslim preacher is said to have invented a medicine or remedy for coronavirus with the help
of Islamic knowledge. Many people think that covid does not spread at night. People performed
prayers in congregation thinking that everything is God’s Will. They even stopped wearing masks and
celebrated eid thinking that it is a religious occasion and God will protect them. People of different
cultures are performing milads to withdraw coronavirus from the country. Bangladeshi people believe
that this virus is spreading basically due to the western culture. Many people have stopped eating
chicken and shrimp thinking that it will contain coronavirus. All these are superstitions and
misconception. These misconceptions can raise huge chaos amongst different groups of people when
the pandemic actually ends. So superstitions are by no means a good thing. Infact superstitions are
very harmful for any society, religion and culture.
Coronavirus or covid 19 is basically a virus which spreads through droplets. At the point when a
contaminated individual hacks, wheezes, or talks, beads with the infection fly into the air from their
nose or mouth. Any individual who is inside 6 feet of that individual can inhale those beads into their
lungs. This is the basic system of covid spread. The infection that causes COVID-19 is thought to
spread chiefly from individual to individual, mostly through respiratory beads created when a tainted
individual hacks or sniffles. These beads can land in the mouths or noses of individuals who are close
by or conceivably be breathed in into the lungs. Spread is almost certain when individuals are in close
contact with each other (inside around 6 feet). COVID-19 is by all accounts spreading effectively and
economically in the ("network spread") in many influenced geographic zones. Network spread
methods individuals have been contaminated with the infection in a zone, including some who don't
know how or where they got infected. People who think any religion or any God can directly help
them be safe from coronavirus are absolutely wrong. According to Islam, “Allah helps those who try
to help themselves.” If a person does not even try to stay safe and goes to public gatherings and does
not take proper measures then he/she cannot claim to be saved by anyone. According to international
guideline, health experts have declared preventive or precautionary steps against the spread of
coronavirus. Firstly, we should all stay at home and not try to go out unless it is of utmost importance.
People should wear masks if they go into close contact with another person. Public gatherings should
be avoided as much as possible. We should wash hands every hour. If anyone goes out of his home
should bath immediately after returning. Public places are ordered to have disinfectant booths infront
of the gates. If a person is found to have symptoms of coronavirus should be isolated immediately and
for 14 days. These are proven scientific health tips that can help prevent coronavirus and scientists are
already trying to find a cure for this disease. So, thinking that following religious customs or cultural
or social customs can help prevent coronavirus is absolutely rubbish. Rather, people who abide by the
health tips will ultimately be benefitted and survive this pandemic.

From the above discussion we can clearly understand that people of different beliefs and culture exist
in the world and may have different opinions or superstitions regarding this covid 19 pandemic. But
this is high time the people realise that no religion, no God, no cultural customs or social custom can
help them prevent coronavirus. Rather everyone should follow then basic health tips and avoid
listening and abiding by the superstitions. People all over the world have been trying for thousands of
solution to solve this issue. There is no doubt that the world is full of highly knowledgeable people.
And they are also asking everyone to follow the health tips. So it is our duty to follow those principle
and lead life accordingly. Hence, instead of believing that any religion or culture can save us, we
should all be extra careful and pray to God so that he helps us. Because if we don’t help ourselves , no
God can help us.
