Performance Task 2

Write an essay about the pandemic situation we are facing now. Follow the structure you
have learned in this lesson. Use the outline below as a guide in writing your essay.

The current COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all. The pandemic's impact and
consequences, however, are felt differently depending on our status as individuals and
members of society. While some try to adapt to working online, homeschooling their children,
and ordering food online, others are forced to be infected in order for society to function. Our
various social identities and the social groups to which we belong determine our social inclusion
and, as a result, our vulnerability to epidemics.

In the amidst of the pandemic that all of us are facing is Coronavirus or Covid-19 virus.
According to my research, a pandemic occurs when a disease affects the entire world's
population. Pandemics are also typically caused by newly discovered infectious agents like
bacteria or viruses that spread rapidly. A pandemic is a type of epidemic, but it involves both the
number of people and the geographical area affected by the disease. Disease can also spread
much more quickly as people live in more densely populated areas and have easier access to
travel around the world.

Going back to the topic, the Coronavirus disease or Covid-19, is an infectious disease caused
by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate
respiratory illness and will recover without the need for special treatment. Some, however, will
become seriously ill and require medical attention. Older people and those with underlying
medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or
cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Anyone of any age can become seriously ill or
die from COVID-19.
The virus primarily spreads between people through close contact and via aerosols and
respiratory droplets that are exhaled when talking, breathing, or otherwise exhaling, as well as
those produced from coughs or sneezes. This is the most common transmission called Airborne
transmission. Anyone who is within 6 feet of that person can breathe it into their lungs.

The transmission takes place where crowded places, close contact settings, especially where
people have conversations that are very near to each other, and lastly confined and enclosed
spaces with poor ventilation. According to recent research, the COVID-19 virus can survive for
up to 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel, four hours on copper, and 24 hours on cardboard.

Therefore, when we talk about the statistics of this virus is that from the 3rd of January 2020 to
6:35pm CEST, 16th September 2022, there were 3,913,536 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in
the Philippines, with 62,447 deaths, according to WHO. As of August 31, 2022, a total of
162,844,138 vaccine doses had been administered. While there are 612 million positive cases
and 6.53 million deaths in the global population.
However, the virus that we have encountered in this generation is not the only pandemic that
has happened. There are also other pandemics that were overcome by us in the past few years.
As the current COVID-19 pandemic unfolds around us, many people are comparing it to
previous pandemics to compare it with.
These are: the 2009 swine flu pandemic, the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the 1918 Spanish flu
pandemic.

As I was saying, there is too many ways to prevent this kind of pandemic that we are facing is I
suggests that to always maintain a safe distance from others even if they don’t appear to be sick
because it’s better to prevent that to cure. You can still wear a mask even if it is now voluntarily
in public, because you might also get sick because of other’s sickness. I also suggest that when
it comes to vaccine, get vaccinated as early as possible because being vaccinated is what
keeps you safe and what keeps other safe.
