ACTIVITY 1

Malala´s Nobel Peace Lecture summary

Malala’s Nobel Peace Lecture inspired me in a really big way, with only 16 years
old she thinks in rights of her people, of all humanity. She wants that the education
became practiced in all the world and that nobody thinks that this right is only for
the boys. In her reading she tells her story, everything she had lived, like the very
cruel and evil terrorism. When she was only 10 years, she saw how more than 400
schools were destroyed as the same time as all her dreams. She felt that her future
had been buried along with the schools and that all her and her friend´s dreams
became in nightmares.
She said something incredible, when this happened she and her friends have two
options; to remain in silent and wait to be killed or to speak up and then be killed,
they chose the second one, something that in many cases don´t happen because
people prefer to be in silent just standing by seeing all those injustices without
doing anything. Malala had the courage to demand her rights and not continue to
endure all the destruction, she not remain in silent about the mistreatment and the
forms as bloody as the terrorist killed her people and they raise their voice. They
tell to the terrorist that if they don´t know that in the Coran when they killed a
person they are killing all the humanity, something really thoughtful. The terrorist
tried to stop them so in 2012 they take in a school bus. Malala and her friends
thought that was the end but the terrorism didn´t win, the bullets didn´t win because
that group of teenagers survive and since that day their voices have grown lauder
and lauder, something of admiration.
Malala´s and that group of friends showed that we can fight for what is right, for
truth and for rights, rights that are for all. (319 words)

Questions and Answers:

1. How would you feel if your basic right to an education was taken away?

If my right of education was taken away I will feel very indignant, frustrated and
angry because it´s my right and it is supposed to be done and respected. It is a
right that both men and women must have and that some people who think they
are superior and use violence to decide about the lives of others is very unfair.

2. What would your life be like?

Without education, surely there will be no future, if in my life the right to education
will not be respected, I cannot prepare me to be someone in life, I wouldn´t have a
stable and good job, so I will not have a good future. My economic stability would
be on the floor because nowadays companies are looking for people with great
knowledge and study, highly “trained “people. In a few words I wouldn’t be happy
because I really like to study and learn.
3. If your life was at risk, would you continue to stand up for your rights/for what you believe
in?

Yes, I would stand up and fight against the people that take away my rights without
any justification, because what use is it to stop fighting when my life is at risk if I am
not going to live happy and content.
Is better to die knowing that you did your best to end this injustice than to live your
whole life under the power and the ideas of others and regretting that you have
done nothing to change the situation.
4. Was Malala right to put herself and her friends in danger for her beliefs?

Yes, Malala and her friends knew how dangerous it would be to oppose the ideas
and rules of the terrorists. What happened on the bus was the sign of the evil of
these people, but Malala and her friends were able to overcome this situation,
especially Malala who did not allow herself to be overcome by death and raised her
voice further, her strong voice became that of those who could not speak out of
fear.
5. What difficulties has Malala had to overcome so far in her life?

Malala's life has been marked by several difficulties that she has been able to
overcome with great strength and perseverance. One difficulty was when she had
to observe with just 10 years how more than 400 schools were destroyed, at that
moment she felt that all her big dreams were destroyed. And without a doubt the
hardest difficulty in Malala's life was when she was shot on the school bus, in the
left part of her face. If Malala had not been strong, she would very surely have
been paralyzed on that side and perhaps paraplegic. But she came out ahead to
continue fighting injustices and for the rights.
6. Do you know of other people who have had to overcome similar obstacles?

My mother is an example of overcoming difficulties and the “tests” that life puts, like
Malala. My mother had cancer before I was born. She tells me that when they gave
her the news she was very sad and she felt death close, but she decided to get
away from these negative thoughts and fight against the disease for her life. She
was very close to God and thanks to him and my mother's perseverance she was
able to beat the disease.
7. What change would you like to see in the world?
A change that I would like to see in the world is undoubtedly what Malala wants,
that education be practiced by everyone, absolutely everyone. Another change that
I would like to see is that the human being understands that he is not the only living
being in the world that he has to respect the lives of others. The problem of some
is that they feel superior and that is why they believe that they can do what they
want, a consequence of this are the wars in which thousands of men and women
have died and not only they but also nature and animals. In my point of view this
situation that is occurring with the coronavirus is a stage to reflect and understand
that nature needs to be cared for and that sadly, it lives much better without us.
Now we can see how animals take to the streets without worries, exotic animals
that have not been seen for a long time, so for me it is the perfect time to think
about consequences of our actions and how we have come destroying little by little
our world, our home.

ACTIVITY 2
1. Based on the Biography, what other questions you would like to ask and
discuss? Write down 3 questions of your own.

Questions:
1. If you had to choose a right as the most important, what would it be and
why?
2. In your life and close "social" circle you have seen situations in which rights
have not been respected, in which ones?
3. Do you think Malala has been able to achieve everything she has done
alone by herself or with the support of other people?
2. Read through the Articles of the Declaration of Human Rights.
Based on the Biography and the Video: Which Articles are being breached and
why?

Article 1: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are
endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a
spirit of brotherhood.
The Taliban violate this right because their ideals separate women from the right to
education, they are not giving equal rights.
Article 2: Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this
Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language,
religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other
status.
This article has been breached in most of Malala's life because from a young age
she observed and lived how the rights of the female sex weren´t respected,
especially the right of education. The right to have all the rights and freedoms,
regardless of the sex, was trampled by terrorism because they didn´t allow women
to express themselves and oppose their norms, they could not express themselves
freely. Terrorism was so clear in their thoughts that they destroyed more than 400
precisely women's schools, a very unfair act.

Article 3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.
When the Taliban issued a death threat against Malala when she was only 14
years old, it can be seen that her right to life and freedom was not being respected
because, to tell the truth of the injustices, they issued that threat as a way to
silence her. The right to life was violated enormously when Malala was shot on her
school bus, it was a violent act that aimed to end the lives of these young women
who were fighting for the rights of children.
That death attempt, which didn’t turn out as the Taliban wanted, because to
Malala's courage and desire to live, showed that for the Taliban many rights are
not respected, especially because they are women and and because they oppose
and fight against their rules and thoughts.

Article 18: Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion;
this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either
alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion
or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
The right to freedom of thought was also breached by the Taliban, when Malala
and her friends began to speak out against inequalities in the right to education
between the sexes, the Taliban began to do things so that they understood that
their voices were not going to be heard and that they had to stop, so they began to
persecute them and as I mentioned before, they destroyed schools as a sign that
they did not care about their claims. This is a violation of this article because they
aren´t allowing the people to have freedom of thought because they wanted to
silence them and they also subjected it to thoughts and ideals that Malala did not
agree with, for example, the thought that education is only for men.
Article 19: Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right
includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and
impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.
The right to freedom of opinion and expression was also breached and it is related
to the previous article because Malala at the same time that she thought differently,
she expressed her opinions regarding the ideas and rules of the Taliban, opinions
that they didn´t accept because it put them at risk because more people could join
these opinions and thoughts and perhaps confront them. That is why they carried
out an attack against Malala, to silence the voice of many people that like Malala
wanted a change.
Article 26: Everyone has the right to education
This article is the most evidenced and for which Malala fights for compliance and
respect, so that everyone has and receives an education, something very
important for the life of each person and that many are deprived.
This right is for Malala the most important and to which terrorism and the Taliban
did not respect, for them only men had the right.
During her short but great life Malala has fought hard and persevering against the
inequality of this right in women. A fight to which many people have joined little by
little to finally achieved the most important objective for Malala, that regardless of
whether the sex, everyone receives an education, the education so loved by her
and the education with which dreams can be fulfilled.
