RCS-500 Completion Slips

Function as a spider to handle tubulars in completion-
running operations

Applications
• Casing and tubing strings with outside diameters (OD) of up to 7-5/8 in.
(194 mm)
• Completion strings requiring passage of control lines and/or umbilicals
with diameters up to 6 in. (152 mm)
• Special alloy completion strings
• Subsea completion and landing strings
• Production, completion, and workover risers
• Chrome tubulars, including super-chrome and hyper-chrome pipe
Features and Benefits
• A control-line enclosure helps to protect control lines from damage
when the slips move.
• The slip setback is a minimum of 8 in. (203 mm) greater than the pipe
diameter, which enables the passage of large-OD control-line
protectors.
• The flush-mounted, low-profile design reduces stump height to
eliminate the need for work scaffolds and enhance safety.
• A fail-safe hydraulic circuit prevents the slips from opening or closing
unexpectedly if hydraulic pressure is lost.
• RCS-500 slips enable the operator to run completion and landing
strings with the same tool for more efficient operations.
• The slips are compatible with all 37 1/2-in. rotary profiles for use on
most rig types.
• For added safety and efficiency, the slips can be used with the
AutoCLAMP™ system. This system eliminates personnel from
hazardous areas of the rig during tubular-running operations. Rated to 500 tons (453,592 kg), RCS-500
completion slips handle tubulars as well as
• The slips are available with Weatherford Micro-Grip® insert technology large-OD components. The slips are available
or standard inserts. with Micro-Grip inserts, which reduce die
marks.
Tool Description
The Weatherford RCS-500 completion spider has a 500-ton (453,592-kg)
rating to handle tubulars in completion-running operations. The spider also
accommodates large-OD string components, including multiple control-line
configurations, large umbilicals, and associated protection hardware.

Legacy tool-handling technology frequently requires removal of the spider

from the rotary. However, because the rotary-mounted RCS-500
completion spider has a minimum setback of 8 in. (203 mm) greater than
the pipe OD, the slips do not have to be removed during completion
running.

The spider design reduces slips-crushing potential. An integrated and

interlocked control-line protection sleeve prevents damage by capturing
the control lines before the slips move.
