Q1 a.Molar mass of Juglone ??

Chemical formula: C10 H6O3.

10 C : 10 × 12.0g = 120g

6 H : 6 × 1.0 g. =6g

3 O : 3 × 16.0 g = 48g

Molar Mass. =174 g

The molar mass of 1 mole of Juglone is 174g.

bi. Moles of Juglone =Mass

Molar mass
Mass= 0.72mg= 0.00072 g
No. moles = 0.00072g ÷ 174g/mol = 4. 1379× 10-6 mol
~=4.14×10-6 mol
ii. 1 mole of Juglone ------> 6. 02 ×1023
4.14 × 10-6 mole of Juglone------> x
X= 6.02×1023 x 4.14 × 10-6
X= (6.02 × 4.14)× 1023-6
X= 2.49 × 1018 molecules of Juglone.

Therefore, there are 2. 49x1018 molecules of Juglone.

2a. Molar mass of NaCl
1 Na: 1× 23= 23g
1 Cl: 1× 35.5=35.5g
Molar mass= 58.5g/mol
bii. From the no. of moles= mass(g)/Molar mass (gmol-1 )
Mass(g)= no.of moles x molar mass
Mass( g) = 8.55× 58.5 = 500.175g
No. Of moles of NaCl= mass/molar mass= 8.55moles
ii. NaCl -------> Na+ + Cl-
Mass of chlorine ion present.

1 mole NaCl--------> 1 mole of Cl-

8.55 moles NaCl--------> 8.55 mole Cl-
Mass of Cl- = no.of moles x molar mass= 8.55× 35.5= 303.525

molar mass of NaHCO3 = Na + H + 3(O) = 23+ 1+12+3(16)

= 84g/mol
Molar mass of C6H8O7 = 6(12)+8(1)+7(16) =192g/mol
Balanced equation;
3 NaHCO3(aq) + C6H8O7 (aq) -----> 3 CO2( g) + 3H2O + Na3C6H5O7(aq)
1.0×102 mg= 0.1 g

College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences

ANITA LEWIS3

From the equation;

3 moles of NaHCO3 -----> 1 mole of C6H8O7
3× 84 g/mol of NaHCO3 -----> 1× 192g/mol of C6H8O7
Also, 0.1g NaHCO3 --------------> xg of C6H8O7
==>> 252g = 0.1× 192
X= 19.2/252 = 0.076190mol
Therefore, 0.076 g of Citric acid is used for every 100 mg of NaHCO 3.

b). Also, from the equation.

Molar mass of CO2 = 12+ 2( 16) = 44g

3 NaHCO3 ----------> 3CO2

3 moles 3 moles

3 × 84 g/ mol 3× 44g/mol

252g/ mol of NaHCO3 ---------------------->. 132g/mol CO2

0.1g NaHCO3 ---------------> x g of CO2

252x = 132× 0.1

X= 13.2/252

X= 0.05238 mol

Q4. Balance equation:

C6H10O4(l) + 2NH3(g) + 4H2(g) ---------------------> C6H16N2(l) + 4H2O(l)

Molar mass of C6H10O4 = 6(12)+ 10(1)+4(16)

College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences

ANITA LEWIS4

=146g/mol

Molar mass of C6H16N2 = 6(12)+ 16(1)+2(14)

= 116g/mol

From the equation;

1 mol of C6H10O4 -----------------------> 1mol of C6H16N2

==>> 146g/ mol of C6H10O4 ---------> 116g/mol of C6H16N2

5×102 g of C6H10O4 -----------------------> x g of C6H16N2

146g/mol x= 5×102 g × 116g/ mol

X= 58000/146 = 397.260274g

X= 397.26 g of C6H10O4

% yield=actual yield/ theoretical yield x 100%

No. Of moles of Adipic acid= 500g/ 146g/mol= 3.425 mol.

Hence, theoretical value= 3.425× 116= 397.26g

% yield= 385g/ 397.26g × 100%= 96.9%

Theoretical yield= No.of moles of Adipic acid x Molar mass of C 6H16N2

18. What are diuretic??

Diuretics are class of drugs that increase the flow of urine ( termed
as diuresis).promote diuresis, the increased production of urine.

Example of diuretic ; Hydrochlorothiazide.

19. a. Calculate the molar mass of Aspirin.

Molar mass of Aspirin ( C9H8O4) = 9(C)+8(H)+4(O)

= 9(12)+8(1)+4(16)

=180g/mol

b.Mass = 300mg=300/1000= 0.3g

No.of moles of Aspirin= mass/molar mass

= 0.3g/180g/mol

= 1.6666× 10-3 moles = 1.67× 10-3 mole.

c. How many molecules

From Molecule (N)= no.of moles x Avagadro's number

N= 1.6666× 10-3 x 6.02× 1023 = 1.0032932×1021

= 294g/mol

b. no.of moles of Aspartame= 15g/294g/mol =0.0510 mol

C.Mass in gram of Aspartame= no.of moles× molar mass

= 2.65 mol×294g/mol =779.10 g

d. 7.5mg= 7.5/1000= 7.5×10-3 g

No.of moles = 7.5×10-3 g/294g/mol= 2.5510× 10-5 mol

Molecules number= 2.5510× 10-5 x 6.02×1023 =1.54×1019 molecules

e.number of atoms = no.of moles× Avagadro's number

No.of moles= 2.5g/294g/mol =8.5034×10-6 moles

1 mole of Aspartame= 6.02×1023 atoms

8.5034×10-6 moles = x atom

Cross multiply:

===>> X atom= 6.02×1023 × 8.5034×10-6 = 5.119×1018 atoms.
