DO ’S & DON ’T FOR NOVEC SYSTEM

AFTER A FIRE :

1. DO NOT OPEN D OORS OR WINDOWS , OR REMOVE THE NOVEC 1230 FROM THE PROTECTED
SPACE UNTIL YOU ARE SURE THE FIRE IS COMPLETELY PUT OUT .

2. DO NOT ENTER THE AREA UNTIL THE NOVEC 1230 HAS BEEN REMOVED AND THE AREA
VENTILATED .

In general, providing the system discharges during the early stages of the fire, and
providing all work station shut-down features are operated and safety precautions are
taken, the fire should be extinguished within one minute from the end of NOVEC 1230
discharge. However, the area should be kept closed for at least fifteen (15) minutes
following discharge to allow hot materials to cool, and to prevent re-ignition.

TO CHECK IF F IRE IS OUT :

1. Look for smoke coming from cracks around doors, windows, vents, etc.

2. Feel the doors and walls. If they are hot do not open doors, additional cooling
time is required.

3. Listen for cracking (burning) sounds.

CAUTION :
DO NOT ENTER AREA WITH A LIGHTED CIGARETTE OR OPEN FLAME AS FLAMMABLE VAPOURS MAY BE
PRESENT WHICH COULD CAUSE RE - IGNITION OR AN EXPLOSION .

AFTER OPENING THE DOOR :

1. Completely ventilate the space. NOVEC 1230 is heavier than air and will drift into
low level spaces.

TO RE-FURNISH SYSTEM

AFTER OPERATION , THE SYSTEM SHOULD BE RECHARGED WITHOUT DELAY IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN
PROTECTION .

1. Remove, inspect and recharge all cylinders.

2. Inspect the piping system and ensure pipe supports are still secure.

3. Inspect all components – nozzles, switches, detectors, alarms, etc. Replace all
equipment that has been damaged or that has been exposed to direct flame or
excessive heat from the fire.
