Once upon a time there was a little girl called Red Riding Hood. She lived with
her mother on the edge of a dark forest.
It was a fine day when Little Red Riding Hood set off, and she walked happily
along. Then she got bored and wandered off the path to look at some pretty yellow
flowers.
So Little Red Riding fetched her cloak, and her mother put some roast chicken
and cake in a basket.
One day Little Red Riding Hood’s mother asked her to visit her grandmother on
the other side of the forest, and take her some food because she was ill.
“Hello, little girl,” said the wolf. “Where are you going with your basket?”
As soon as Little Red Riding Hood was out of sight, the wolf galloped through the
wood on another path and arrived at the grandmother’s cottage well before the little
girl.
“Just remember, though,” said her mother, “stay on the path and don’t talk to
strangers.”
When the wolf got there, the grandmother was gone. There was a note on the
door saying, “Gone to stay with sister in village”. So the wolf crept quickly inside.
“I’m going to my grandmother’s, on the other side of the forest,” answered Little
Red Riding Hood.
