Introduction

The innovative product that I picked is Huawei Mate Xs which was launched in 2019.
Huawei Mate Xs is the first foldable smartphone with 5G. It comes with a resilient
flexibility that can be fold outward and back to itself. This foldable smartphones from
5 Huawei allows consumer to use half of the screen as a traditional smartphone even when
the device is folded.

Advantages
The commercialisation of Huawei Mate Xs has bring up a lot of excitement and
10 discussion among users. It also brings up an innovative idea in the industry. The first
advantage is the foldable design that has the factor of smartphone and tablet in one
device. Huawei Mate Xs can be expand from a full-sized phone to an iPad mini-sized
device. When the phone is in a folded state, users can still use the phone in a full 6.6-inch
display which is large enough to compete with non-foldable flagship phones and 8 inches
15 when the phones is unfold. Huawei crammed all the hardware including the battery and
cameras, buttons and fingerprint scanner which looks sturdy and convenient for users to
bring along. Therefore, the foldable screens give the ability to essentially double the
screen size, keeping the same footprint.
The second advantage to commercialise Huawei Mate Xs is the next level of
20 multitasking experience. In a fully unfolded mode, users can take an advantage of the
large display by using the entire canvas to browse websites and conveniently multitask by
having up to three apps open at the same time. Two of them side by side on the large
displays split. It gives users almost the full size experience at four inches, and an option
of adding a third app that floats on top of the two app side by side. This feature give users
25 convenience in doing multitasking jobs.
The third advantage is the high definition camera system of Huawei Mate Xs. It has a
versatile camera system that could take very impressive shots and featured zoom mode.
The camera system is made up of three cameras including a SuperSensing Leica Quad
 Camera along its sidebar. This camera systems features a 40MP SuperSensing Wide
Camera which is the main camera of Mate Xs, 16MP Ultra-Wide camera, 8MP Telephoto
camera and 3D Depth Sensing camera. The main camera of Huawei is equipped with a
large 1/1.7 inch RYYB sensor. This RYYB sensor allows more light into the sensor.
5 Thus, users are capable of taking great low light shots and generates more vivid
photography, providing a higher image quality. The 16MP Ultra-Wide camera features a
17mm focal length and 2.5cm micro focus capability that helps to capture stunning
landscapes and detailed macro shots. The Mate Xs can take photos up to 30x zoom and
videos up to 10x zoom. Another advantage on this camera system is that the primary
10 camera system also works as the selfie camera. Users can rotate the camera towards
himself. This makes Mate Xs camera special as it becomes one of the best selfie camera
on a phone now.
Disadvantages
The limitation that may arise is the firmware of Huawei Mate Xs. Huawei is ban from
15 using Google’s Mobile Service suite due to the US Government restrictions. Huawei
started building its own framework called Huawei Mobile Services to replace the Google
Play Store with its new AppGallery. Mate Xs has to rely on Huawei Mobile Services and
a relatively new developed AppGallery storefront is was still not stable. The availability
of apps in the store is low.
20 The second limitation is the design of the phone that prone to scratch. Having an out
folding device means regardless of how users place your the phone down, it will always
be sitting on the exposed display and this makes it prone to scratches. Since glass cannot
be bent, the display is very fragile by being only protected by a thin layer of plastic
screen protector.
25 The third limitation is the high price of the phone. It is selling RM 11,111.00 in
Malaysia. This phone is not a device for everyone, only people who want a phone unlike
of others or people who like using cutting edge technology or users who prefer large
screen on a phone would buy it. Huawei Mate Xs is a luxury product therefore it only
caters people who can afford it and those that can easily afford to replace the screen if
30 necessary thereby it limits the market of this product (Carlon 2020).
Recommendations
The first recommendation is where Huawei should customized liquid screen protector
 for Mate Xs. The liquid screen protector is an invisible product that can be placed on top
of the screen. It is a nano-liquid that can withstand cracks, breaks and scratches. The
liquid screen protector seem like a smooth surface. This liquid screen protector uses the
strength and resiliency of silicon dioxide to create a better alternative to tempered glass
5 for phone and tablets and it minimize the chance of having pay for costly repairs. This
liquid coating will eventually wear off so users can reapply it yearly.
The second recommendation is Huawei should improve their AppGallery. Huawei
AppGallery is still in its infancy. To be competitive with Google phones, Huawei should
improve their appstore by applying similar concepts from Google and putting in more
10 resources and application to make the phone more accessible.
Lastly, I would suggest Huawei to remove the selfie camera in order to lower down the
cost of the smartphone so that it will be more affordable. As the main camera system can
be rotated to use as selfie camera, Huawei can remove the selfie camera of the phone in
order to lower down the selling price. The main camera of Mate Xs can be use as both
15 rear and selfie camera.
