Grade Level(s): 9-12
Content Standard Addressed: SEV4. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to analyze human
impact on natural resources.

Technology Standard Addressed: Empowered Learner- 1b-Students build networks and customize their
learning environments in ways that support the learning process. &
Knowledge Constructor- 3d- Students build knowledge by actively exploring real-world issues and problems,
developing ideas and theories and pursuing answers and solutions.
Creative Communicator- 6c- Students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or using
a variety of digital objects such as visualizations, models or simulations.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This activity and the technology tools you selected support and enhance the learning experience for
students in the classroom by using prompts or detailing requirements clearly by restating goals to increase
engagement. To grow engagement, the students will use prompts and rubrics as checklists that focus on self-
regulatory goals. In an attempt to boast learner interest, the teacher will provide autonomy in natural
resource, type of tools used, color, design, layout, and sequence or timing of tasks.

Lesson idea implementation:

The students will obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to analyze human impact on natural
resources by doing a PowerPoint and paper of a natural resource. The teacher would explain everything: 1.
Choose any natural resource (of use to humans, or have value), and give some examples. 2. Describe the
resource: Where it’s found? What are its uses? What are some significant facts about the resource? Is it
endangered? Is it renewable? How is this resource connected to the earth’s spheres? Include some pictures
and diagrams to show what you should have. 3. Show the location of this resource on a map (world or
country). 4. How has this resource suffered or been manipulated (exploitation)? The teacher will give an
example – Corn – used for ethanol, damages soil, food source. Finally, 5. How can this resource be sustained?
How can humans protect or continue to use this resource without impacting future generations? The teacher
will give the students the format, at least fifteen slides, have at least five sources and the rubric.
The project will be start on Thursday, have Friday and the weekend, and presented on Monday. The
Natural Resources project will be assessed via a rubric. Feedback will be provided on the rubric and with
teacher notes. The product can be used to differentiate learning by using self-evaluation, and grading them
based on achievement, growth and habits (e.g., participation, behavior, effort, attendance) as well as the final
project. I will extend student learning by having them give the PowerPoint in front of their parents and the
principle. I will conclude this lesson by telling and showing the impact of humans on the Earth.

Reflective Practice:.
I feel this lesson could impact student learning by giving them the knowledge to change the way they
interact with the world. I could extend the unit of study by giving the students a lab of the ways humans are
impacting the Earth. The Habitable Planet- Annenberg Learner will be the technology I use to further enhance
the project.
