Subject Description This course focuses on the application of scientific knowledge and the solution
of practical problems in a physical environment designed to bridge the gap
between theoretical science and daily living.
Content Basic concept of hazard
Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of the concepts of disaster and
disaster risk , and the nature and effects of disaster.
Performance The learner shall be able to:

 Explain the meaning of disaster;
 Differentiate the risk factors underlying disasters
 Describe the effects of disasters on one’s life.

A. Before the Lesson
1. The teacher asks student to lead the opening prayer followed by the checking of students’ attendance
through the use of class card.

Before the class will start, the teacher makes sure that the learning environment is conducive for
learning. All things must be in their proper order.

Communicate Learning objective: I: “I will be able to” explain what disaster is? differentiate factors that
put us at risk and explain when disaster might happen.

Review the basic definition of hazard and disaster.

2. Activity: Understanding Disaster Risk Factors: Part I (Building background knowledge protocol)

3. Motivation: Introduce The World Risk Map (Hermes,2014)


B. During the Lesson
1. Analysis: 1. Have participants write down what they think the map is about and draw a line after
thought are jotted down.(5 mins.)2. Introduce the topic of DISASTER RISK. Ask the student to write
what they know about the topics in their activity notebooks.(5mins.3. Ask participant in their small
groups, to share what they know about the topic (10mins)4. Ask participant to create visualization of
their collective knowledge/ understanding of the topic on a piece of a chart paper using marker.
To strengthen the learners ‘knowledge of lesson, the teacher Provide an article /essay on the topic that is
interesting, offers a solid introduction of a topic, and provide a multiple perspectives.
2. Abstraction. What to Process. In this section, the teacher helps the students master what disaster
is , that the student can now differentiates factors that put us a risk . Explain to the class that this
activity is meant to let them explain when a disaster happen

C. After the Lesson
1.Assessment. Administer a formative test to determine the mastery of the students in this lesson.
5. Read the article of Vanautu .
2. Generalization: The lesson underscores the the student on what disaster is , explaining when disaster
happen and differentiates factors of risk inn disaster. The values of appreciation and camaraderie are
developed among the students through collaborative work. Students are able to share what they know on
the topics and emphasize disaster on how it involved in our daily life.
3. Agreement:Ask learners to test code the article with “N” for new information. Ask participant to add
new knowledge and write them on their activity notebook
