c. Review
What did you remember about our It’s all about different kinds of Solid
lesson yesterday? figures.

Very good, can you give me the Yes ma’am. It is pyramid, cube,
different kinds of Solid figure that we’ve rectangular prism, cone, sphere and
tackled yesterday? What are those? cylinder

And again, What is the difference Plane figures are two dimensional
between plane figures and solid figures? having length and width while the solid
figure are three dimensional having
length, width and height.
a. Motivation
Before we start our lesson I have here, 4
pictures that you can see in our home or
in any other places.
Please observe it carefully. A picture of a refrigerator, cabinet,
What are the things do you see in the pencil case and a jewelry box.
pictures?

Very good! Give yourselves an Angel (execute the clap)

clap.
Okay, we are using them to keep, store
and also to organize our things. We are
using a refrigerator to keep and store our
foods. We are using a Cabinet to put
and keep our clothes free from dirt. We
are using a pencil case to store our
pencils, markers and etc. while the
jewelry box is used in organizing our
accessories.
In terms of its appearance, what did you All of them are in the same shape of
observe? They are the same in what? rectangular prism.

b. Activity
We will have a short but fun activity
for today we wil call it “Write it, as
many as you can”.
Are you ready? Yes!
I will group you into 2. You have to
write it down all the things that are
rectangular prism on manila paper.
The things that will be write down
must not be the same with the other
group.
These are the standards you should
follow:
 Finish the activity for 2
minutes only
 All members of your group
must participate
c. Presentation
Observe the examples of rectangular
prism you have given earlier, what do To store our things.
you think is the use of these things? To keep our things.

So how are we going to store things A rectangular prism should have

inside these rectangular prism? What do space.
we need?
Very good! We can’t put things inside this
rectangular prism if its full or it has no
space.

What do you think is our lesson for today? About the space inside the
rectangular prim.

Okay, Space or also known as a Volume.

Therefore, our lesson for today is Volume
of Rectangular Prism.

d. Discussion:

Before we proceed to our lesson, how It has a six faces, twelve edges, and 8
can you say that a solid figure is an vertices.
example of rectangular prism?

Very good! And here’s the meaning of

Volume.

Volume is the amount of space inside of

the solid figure. It is measured in cubic
units.

Why do you think it is measured in a To tell you how many cubes of a given
cubic unit? size it takes to fill the solid figure.

Correct! Thus, we are measuring the

volume to know how much is the area of
a particular thing.
I have here a problem. Everyone please
read the problem together.

An aquarium has a length of 120 cm, a

width of 60 cm, and a height of 100 cm.
How much water is needed to fill the
aquarium?
60 cm

100 cm

120 cm

Okay, what is asked in the problem? The amount of water needed to fill the
aquarium.
In order to get the volume of a
rectangular prism we need to identify first
the length, width and height.

Based on the problem, what is the

length? 120 cm
The width? 60 cm
And lastly, the height of the aquarium is? 100 cm

To find the volume (V) of a prism, multiply

the number of cubic units needed to
cover the base (B) by the number of
layers (h).

So, for any prism,

Volume (V) = base area (B) x height (h)

Volume of Prisms
e. The volume (V) of a prism is the
product of the base area (B) and
the height (h).
V= B ∙ h
Since B= L ∙ W, then V = l ∙ w ∙ h

In order to get the volume we must get

120 cm x 60 cm is 7,200 cm
first its base. Thus we need to multiply
Therefore, the base of the aquarium is
length and width. Anyone please get it?
7,200 cm
Excellent! So the next step is? What?
We multiply its base to its height. Thus,
7,200 cm x 100 cm is equal to 720,000
cm³
So the answer to our problem is?
You need 720,000 cm³ of water to fill
the aquarium.
Correct! Give ourselves a fireworks clap.
(execute the clap)
f. Application:
Solve the following volume of these
objects.

5 cm V=l∙w∙h
7cm = 12x5x7
12 cm =420 cm³

W= 2m
V=l∙w∙h
3m = 1x2x3
=6m³

1m

2. Group Activity
The whole class will be group into 4. Their .
group is also the same in their first activity.
Each of the group will be given a task
card with a clear instruction and different
problem solving.

Solve the following problems in only 5

minutes and be prepared to present it
into the whole class. Deduction will be
given if everyone didn’t participate and
when the silence isn’t observe while
doing the task.

Group 1:
a. Amy has a box measuring 25
cm long, 20 cm wide and 20 cm It will contain 10,000 cm³ of rice.
high. If she will store rice in it,
how many cubic cm of rice will
it contain?

b.

25 mm

25x10x8= 2,000 mm³

You are asked to fill this container 2,000x 0.75 (3/4) = 1,500 mm³ the water
in its ¾ level with water. How much water needed inorder to fill the container u
you need to put on the container? to its ¾ level.
Group 2
a. A 5 cm x 3 cm x 5 cm
container is half-filled with 5x3x5= 75
salt. How much salt is still 75÷2= 37.5 or 75x0.5= 37.5
needed to completely fill the
container? 1,600 cm³
b. The length of a chalk box is
10 cm while its depth is 5 cm
and its height is 32 cm. what
its volume. Illustrate the
chalk box.

Group 3
c. A refrigerator has a square 22,400 inches ³
base with each side that
measures 20 inches and
stands 56 inch. Draw a
refrigerator and find its
volume.
a.
23 cm

17cm
4,692 cm³

12 cm

Find its volume.

Group 4
d. A 7 cm x 3 cm x 5 cm 7x3x5=105
container is half-filled with 105x0.5
sugar. How much sugar is 52.5 cm³
needed to completely fill the
container?
V= b x h
e. A rectangular box has a So if the base is missing
volume of 2860 cm3. What
could be the dimension of its V
rectangular bases if its B H
height is 40 cm?
Thus, B= V/H
2860/40= 71.5 cm

g. Generalization
Is everyone already know what is Yes, Volume is the number in cubic
volume and how to get it? Again units inside a space figure.
what is Volume?

How to get volume? V= B ∙ h or V = l ∙ w ∙ h

Why do you think we need to To know the limits or the capacity of

know how to measure the one particular container
volume?

IV. Evaluation
1. Sarah has a chocolate box whose length is 12 cm, height 9 cm, and width 6 cm. Find the
volume of the box.
V = l × w × h = 12 × 6 × 9
The volume of box is 648 cm³
2. A water tank is 90 m long and 60 m wide. What is the volume of the water in the tank, if
the depth of water is 40 m?

V = l × w × h = 90 × 60 × 40

The volume of water tank 216,000 m³

3. A rectangular prism has a width of 4 m, a height of 9 m and a length of 2 m. What is the
volume of the prism?
72m³
4. A rectangular prism has a width of 8 m, a height of 7 m and a depth of 7 m. What is the
volume of the prism?
36 cubic m³
5. Find its volume.

392 m³

V. Assignment
1. What is the volume of a figure that is 8 inches wide, 8 inches tall and 7
inches long?
Volume of figure = 448 cu in
2. A rectangular prism has a width of 10 mm, a height of 5 mm and a depth
of 5 mm. What is the volume of the prism?
Volume of prism = 250 cu mm
