1 OVERVIEW
This document contains release notes for IBM i Agent version 7.20.
The Agent is supported with Director 8.xx and later.
2 NEW FEATURES
The data encryption type for new backup jobs is now AES 256 bit. If an existing backup
job uses another encryption type (e.g., AES 128 bit, Blowfish, DES, Triple DES, None),
the job can continue using that encryption type. However, if you change the
encryption type for the job, you cannot change back to the original encryption type.
Only AES 256 bit will be available.
3 INSTALLATION NOTES
3.2 Licensing
The Agent is installed with a 30-day trial license. The Agent has full functionality for the 30-day
trial period. During this time, obtain a full license code from your service provider and enter it
in the Work with License screen.
3.3 Install/Upgrade
The IBM i Agent is provided in a .zip file (ibmiagent-7.20.2508.zip) or as an iso file
(ibm_i_agent_7_20.iso).
For information about installing or upgrading the Agent, see the IBM i Agent User Guide.
If you recently upgraded your operating system to IBM i V7R3 and are using a previous version
of the Agent, you must upgrade the Agent from version 6.21 to 7.20.
4.1 Fixes
The Agent no longer times out on the vault while processing exclusions. Previously, when the
Agent was backing up a physical file and excluding a large number of members, the vault
sometimes fell into a timeout situation because no data was being received from the Agent.
(31915)
Excluded objects no longer produce errors in the backup logs. (31862)
Backup logs now indicate which files are causing lstat errors. (31452)
The UI no longer accepts encryption passwords that are longer than 31 characters. (31907)
The Agent no longer dumps job information to spooled file (31303)
4.2 Known Issues
PTF status files QUSRSYS/QAPZ* are special operating system objects that cannot be
overwritten. For this reason, they are excluded from *ALLUSR and *SYS backups, and from
QUSRSYS library backups. To backup the PTF status files, you must back them up to a save file
and include the save file in an *ALLUSR backup job. When you restore the PTF status files
(most likely in a disaster recovery scenario), you must delete any existing QUSRSYS/QAPZ*
files first, and then restore them from the save file. (32667)
If you create a job to back up document folders /QDLS only, no files will be saved. /QDLS is
saved by default when you do an IFS root backup. If you want to back up /QDLS individually,
you can set up a *IFS type job INCLUDE(('/QDL*')). (32414)
If you try to restore a multiple member file and exclude one or more members, the entire file
is not restored. The same situation applies to spool files. (32664)
Do not use the IBM Advanced Scheduler for submitting Agent Jobs. The Agent uses the
standard job scheduler, which requires multi-threading. The IBM Advanced Scheduler uses the
RCLRSC command, which is not compatible with multi-threaded applications. (10844/5865)
