Medication Pantoprazole sodium

Brand name Protonix, prontonix IV


Classification  Therapeutic class: Antiulcer drugs
 Pharmacologic class: PPIs
Indications  maintenance of healing of erosive esophagus
 short term treatment of erosive esophagus associated with gerd
 reduction in relapse rates of daytime and nighttime heartburn
symptoms in patients with gerd
 pathologic hyper section caused by Zolleinger-Ellison Syndrome
 dyspepsia

Dosage  Injection: 40 mg/vial


 Suspension (delayed-release) : 40 mg
 Tablets (delayed-release) : 20 mg; 40 mg
Action  Inhibits proton pump activity by binding to hydrogen-potassium
adenosine triphosphatase, located at secretory surface of gastric
parietal cells, to suppress gastric acid secretion
Adverse Reactions  Abd pain, bone loss, CDAD /, cutaneous systemic lupus, dizziness,
headache, hypocalcemia, Hyper magnesium, insomnia, interstitial
nephritis, n/v/d, PNA, Uri

Patient education  further evaluation needed after four weeks of treatment for gerd
while taking this  Switch from Ivy to oil as soon as possible
medication  Consider zinc replacement w/IV use in patients prone to zinc
deficiency
 Not for use in breastfeeding
 Patient should swallow tablet hold do not c/c/c it ;alright take safety
measures for dizziness , reports severe diarrhea, headache, fever
