Indications  To induce or stimulate labor

 To reduce postpartum bleeding after expulsion of placenta
 Incomplete, inevitable, or elective abortion
Dosage Injection: 10 units/ml
Action Causes potent and selective stimulation of uterine and mammary gland smooth
muscle.

Adverse Reactions  Arrhythmias

 CNS: subarchnoid hemorrhage, seizures, coma
 CV: arrhythmias
 GI: Nausea, vomiting.
 GU: abruptio placentae, postpartum hemorrhage, uterine rupture
 Hematologic: afibrinogenemia

Patient education  Explain use and administration of drug to patient and family.
while taking this  Instruct patient to promptly report adverse reactions (site irritation,
medication nausea, bleeding, blurred vision, difficulty speaking, wheezing,
itching, swelling).
 Monitor intake/output
 Monitor/ record uterine contractions and VS every 15 mins
