Laboratory Exercise # 2

Taping Over A Smooth And Level Ground

I. OBJECTIVE:

To determine the distance of an unknown course on a level ground.

II. INSTRUMENTS & ACCESSORIES:

1 pc. Tape
4 pcs. Range Poles(may use sticks)
10 pcs. Marking Pins(may use sticks)

III. PROCEDURE:

Place the range poles at station A and B(30m) that will define the course whose distance
is to be measured. Align the third range pole placed at station a and measures the length of the
segment Aa. The length must be in full meter mark say 5, 8, 10M(depending on full tape length).

Move the range pole at station a to station b as well as the range pole at station A to
station a. Measure and record the length of the next segment ab. Measure the succeeding
segments bc, ed, de etc. until the whole length of the line Ab is covered. Record the total length
of the segments measured.

Repeat the procedure by measuring the segments starting from B going the direction of
station A. Record the result of the second trial and compute the relative precision of the
measurement.

HINTS:
In measuring the segments, only the last segments bear the fraction of a meter or foot
to facilitate mental addition of all segments.

OBSERVATION:
