The submission is in the form of an investigative case study report. This should be written in a concise,
formal business style using single spacing and font size 12. You are required to make use of headings,
paragraphs and subsections as appropriate, and all work must be supported with research and referenced
using the Harvard referencing system. Please also provide a bibliography using the Harvard referencing
system. The recommended word limit is 2,000–2,500 words, although you will not be penalised for
exceeding the total word limit.
• Font Style and Size: Use A4 page size, 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font with 1.5 line
spacing.
• Header and Footer: You should insert headers and footers to your report, this makes it more
presentable. The header could contain assignment title, whereas the footer could contain the page
numbers.
• Using Footnotes: References and citation should be given in the footnotes, preferably following
Harvard Style Referencing.
• Your assignment should be word-processed and should not exceed 6500 words in length (or 25
pages). Exhibits / appendices are outside this limit

Scenario and activity:

Being appointed as an operation manager you are required to analyse and lead the staff and workers.
According to organisation strategic goal CEO wants to bring change in operations and investigate the
impact of leaders and managers on company operations.
During investigation you are required to conduct few interviews within organisation to compare and
analyse the leader’s role and manager’s function.
(You will conduct at least one interview with a member of the leadership team and one with a line
mnager to discuss their roles and how they respond to different situations that may arise)

Produce a report based on your findings for the senior leadership team, it may includes the following:
1. An introduction to the chosen organisation’s management structure
2. Explain functions of managers and role of leaders, highlighting the differences between

Assignment Brief and Guidance

Scenario and activity:

Previously learner is reporting on the role of management and leadership within chosen organization.
Now he/she has been asked by the CEO to give feedback on key approaches with regards to operations
management.
First part of this assessment is going to be a 15-minutes presentation to CEO team in which you have to
address the improvement in performance of company operations. Further you will need to investigate
external business factors that influence operational management and the decisions the management
team makes.

The presentation slides should cover the following areas:


1. An introduction to the key operations of the organisation.
2. Details of each of the key operational functions, identifying the roles and responsibilities of
managers in the key operational functions. (LO3, P4)
3. Explanation of the key operational approaches to operations management and their value.
4. How operational efficiencies can be improved to successfully meet business objectives using
appropriate management and leadership approaches. (LO3, P5)
5. An evaluation of the impact of external business environment factors that affect decision-
making by leaders and managers.(LO4, P6)
6. Conclusions and supported recommendations for future improvements to be taken by the
organisation.
