ANGANWADI

INTRODUCTION

Anganwadi centre provide basic health services to promote and restore health. Mainly
it provides maternal child health services.

FUNCTION OF THE ANGANWADI CENTRE

Provide a package of basic health services, such as

1. Provide supplementary nutrition to the mothers and children.

2. Immunizes antenatal mothers against tetanus and under five children under the
universal immunization programme.

3. Prophylaxis against nutrition anemia among mothers and children.

4. Prophylaxis against blindness among children due to vitamin A deficiency and goiter
control.

5. Organizes monthly health checkups with the help of lady medical officer of LUFWC.

6. Referral services if necessary.

7. Provides health education on nutrition, hygiene, immunization, antenatal care,


newborn care, and environmental sanitation.

8. Provides non-formal education services to under five children.

9. Conducts monthly meeting with mothers and medical officer for welfare of the
mothers and children.

10. Motivates the mothers towards family planning.

11. Pays home visit and provide health education.

12. Identifies postnatal mothers from poor families and recommend to I.C.D.S project (Rs
500/-for mother).
