Assignment connected to the reading of the third part of the book Rani and

Sukh by Bali Rai

Characters in Moranwali, a very poor rural village in Punjab, India in the early
1960s:
 Mohinder Sandhu
 Resham Bains
 Kulwant Sandhu
 Billah Bains
 Nimmo
 Gianni-ji; the priest
Write a portrait of one of the characters in which you include your own personal
opinions. Introduce the person by name and relations, describe appearance,
behavior as well as your impression as a reader. The description should be
detailed with references to the text. Describe as vividly as possible, use
adjectives en masse.
Example:
X is a tall, wide-hipped and narrow-shouldered man. But what
particularly drew people’s attention was not so much his size as his
booming voice and almost royal gestures. He is closely related to the X´s
but seems to be of another opinion than the rest of the family, when it
comes to love and marriage. All through the story he keeps an eye on the
loving couple in a sort of protective way, without revealing his true
opinions. If circumstances had been different, another time, another
culture he would probably have acted differently. It is hard for a
contemporary European to understand the cultural differences and
influences. Yet it makes it easier to understand the hardships you face
when trying to adapt and living in a foreign country. Etc.
