The purpose of this test isas a quick detection of mercaptans, hydrogen sulfide, and/or elemental sulfur contained in the product. The
presence of these compounds can lead to the deterioration of materials used in the transportation, storage, and consumption. They
can also be a safety issue when H2S is present.

The method is performed by mixing the product with a Sodium Plumbite solution in a test tube and adding free sulfur. The tube is then
shaken to see if the mixture reacts. If there is a color change present then the presence of one of these compounds is assumed to be
present in the sample.
