Growing Old
Reflection Paper on Aging

Many long for eternal youth, this might be an idea of fiction but who don’t want
it, right? Everyone fears the idea of aging, and most of us are anxious whether we
will live long or not. But, this is the reality that no one can run from; a reality that
everyone must accept and embrace.

Growing old or aging is undeniably the decline of our viability and increase of
our vulnerability. As human being, we are blessed with the ability to withstand and
blend-in with the external stressors surrounding us; however, this weakens as we
age. Thus, we become vulnerable and prone to multifarious maladies. The idea of
aging has long been being studied, however, despite the theories discovered like
free radicals, DNA damage, telomeres and others; it is still relatively poorly
understood.

Honestly, what scares me the most is not my death amidst aging, but the
deaths of my beloved and the people who’ve been a big part of my life. This
exaggerated as I learned that passed the age of thirty the chances for death
increases twice every eight years. It’s horrifying that we are slowly entering our
eternal pit as years pass by. As I pondered long enough, I reaffirm to myself the
significance of the right and proper nutrition. I greatly believe that food is life, and
with it there are endless possibilities. As of now, there is still no prevention or cure
for aging, but thankfully, we can live longer if we provide ourselves with the right and
proper nutrition. Life is a blessing from God, thus, we must not neglect our
responsibility to safely and securely guard it, as we enjoy all the wonders while living.

Aging and death is something that we cannot run from, thus, we should
accept and embrace it, and make the best out of our lives. Beyond death is the
unknown, hence we should live every moment and make wonderful memories.
