LESSON 2

Basic Drawing/Drafting

Task/Activity

A. Research Activity. Browse the internet and search for the different drawing equipment
and their usage.
Drawing Equipment Usage
1. Drawing Pencils One of the basic instruments for those
who are in line with graphics or traditional
drawing. These are wooden, hexagonal
cylinder. Inside the cylinder, there is a bar
made of graphite and clay called lead
which is the stuff that you see when
drawing something. The leads are
classified based on their hardness (H) or
softness (B).

2. Mechanical Pencil | Refillable Pencil Its function is similar to traditional

pencils. However, the difference is the
lead can be refillable and the refills and
the pencil itself is more expensive.

3. Eraser An instrument that is used to clean or

erase unnecessary marks or correct wrong
drawings. There are many kinds of
erasers.

4. Pencil Sharpeners Traditional pencils tend to have duller

marks overtime. Precise drawings need
sharper lines, thus, the use of sharpeners.

5. Protractor A semi-circular plastic apparatus with

prints of measures up to 180 degrees. This
is used to measure angles.

6. Compass This instrument is used to draw arcs and

circles. It has two movable arms: one used
to place the center of the circle, and the
other, which has a lead, is used to make
arcs or circles.
7. Set Squares These are two triangular templates made
of plastic which are used to make precise
angles and parallel or perpendicular lines.

8. French Curves These are used to draw curves to find the

section of the curve that matches the
shape of the figure.

9. Circle Template A plastic material with a number of

precise circles cut out. These are used to
draw circles of determinate sizes and are
useful especially if the circle is small.

10. Paper Of course, you cannot draw something

without a surface to draw on, which is
paper. It comes in different sizes.

B. Individual Activity. Discuss other procedures to be observed for proper care and
maintenance of drafting tools and equipment.

It is essential to take proper care of the drafting tools, materials, and equipment. Below are some
tips to properly use and take care of them.

1. Avoid dropping your tools and equipment.

2. Never use measuring tools in cutting paper.
3. Wipe off the surface and edges of triangles and T-squares.
4. Sharpen and store your pencils properly after use.
5. Find or create and organizer where you can hang your measuring tools.
6. Have a separate container for making tools.
7. Keep your drawing sheets in a plastic tube to protect them from a dust and dirt.
8. Never lend or borrow drafting tools and materials if may.
