UNRELATED SUBJECTS UNDER SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL LEARNERS

Grades are just numbers, Learning is gold. It is a lifelong exercise not only in school but in real life
experiences as well. No one can beat the desire of giving efforts in learning. The question is, how can we boost
our skills and even our eagerness to learn something from our chosen courses, if we are trapped in the unrelated
subjects under the Senior High School learners’ curriculum? . Unrelated subject under SHS learners should be
removed in the curriculum. ”As much as we like to challenge the idea of students as consumers, arguing that
they are ‘learners’ and that the universities are not just ‘service providers’, education is progressively becoming
a commodity that we are buying into.” (Warner 2016) .Your course is one of the most important parts of your
Senior High School life. The content of what you will study for the two years should be interesting to you, one
of your main motivations in applying job in the near future, challenge your existing knowledge, advance your
potential understanding and most especially teach you new skills that you can use in working in an actual work
environment. “The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement” (Helmut Schmidt). Skills can be
improved through exploring thoroughly your chosen profession. What can an ABM student gain in learning
chemistry and genetics instead of focusing on improving their skills in balancing accounts?.

Many students were enrolled in courses that are doing various things like, singing, dancing, theatre and
acting .Sometimes they knew more in that field than the course they enrolled to study. We now live in 21st
century were in we have one advantage in studying; it is the access of internet. Knowing about the dates when
the heroes were born, did some heroic act then died after will never assess your skills in working in a bank, in a
hospital, building establishment or working in a big company. The employer will never ask such things during
interviews. We have internet anyway. As it is famously said, “In today’s world, staying ignorant is a choice”.
You can be knowledgeable in History but it has nothing to do with the path you choose. Just like what Helmut
Schmidt said in its quotes that “The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement” which means that
improving yourself is a process. You will never improve in a short period of time. It takes time. Learning
different subjects at the same time will make you confuse on what skills you will really need to improve in
order to fly higher. If you want to develop your skills in balancing accounts as an Accountancy Business
Management (ABM) student or your skill in designing and planning establishments as a Science Technology
Engineering Math (STEM) student then you should be learning everything that has related to it.

Removing unrelated subjects under the senior high school curriculum will be the best option in order to
improve better, excel better and make a name in your chosen profession. The idea of learning different
information for two years will be very difficult especially if you excel in your major subject and not in unrelated
subjects under your course. It will serve as a hindrance in achieving a great deal of success. We can’t deny the
fact that students nowadays are under pressure in performing well in academics. The more subject a student
takes, the more pressure they gain. If the unrelated subjects taken by the senior high school students will be
replace by learning to communicate using English language and enhancing one’s confidence in talking in front
then it will be a big help on the students. If you can gain something in that subject, like improving your skills in
communicating, one subject for that particular matter is enough for the students to handle. Students don’t need
many extra subjects with the same concept. The Senior High School learners sometimes take subjects with the
same topics or concepts and we can’t avoid the conflicts related to this. Having different teachers with the same
topic in a subject gives confusedness to the students especially if they get the information they teach in different
sources. Their time and resources are spread thin across the different subjects they need to pass in order to get a
diploma. To maintain the improvement of one’s skills, a student needs a constant learning in school.
 Working in an actual work environment will be much easier if they will focus on things that make them
knowledgeable enough in the ethics of the department and make them skilled enough in their work force.
Exerting too much effort in a subject that cannot be used in the future is a waste of time, waste of money as
well. Most of the time, lot of requirements always interfere that made the life of a student more difficult. They
are obliged to study the unrelated subjects yet they cannot use it as a weapon in the future. Students are
bombarded with various requirements in different subjects like role play or video presentation and the best time
to complete them is weekends because you cannot accomplished a video in a day which means that your time
with your family will be consumed by this things. It will take longer to complete other subjects’ requirements
especially if they have the same deadline of passing. Education is not about ‘compliance’, it is about learning.

Learning means moving forward for your goal. It is a broad term that goes far beyond memorizing and
accomplishing things just for grades. Improvement comes from learning. Students should focus on the things
that can make them improve and skilled enough to be ready in accomplishing working battles in the near future.
Unrelated subjects under Senior High School curriculum will challenge you to assess your readiness.
