LEARNING GAP

What Causes Learning Gaps?

Let's use an example to show how easily learning gaps can form. For middle and high
school students, algebra is often considered to be a stepping stone towards higher
mathematics. During first year algebra, students are taught how to manipulate variables
and solve equations. If a student barely passes the class and doesn't truly feel
comfortable with algebraic concepts, math courses will continue to become harder.
Geometry often comes next – and even though students may be working more with
shapes and angles, many of the concepts are still the same: solving for an unknown
variable. As you can see, learning gaps are caused when concepts at the foundation
level are not fully learned by a student and they continue to struggle as new concepts
are taught on top of previous ones. When a student starts to fall behind, it's important
that we address these gaps early on.
One-to-one tutoring is an ideal solution for students dealing with learning gaps and
other academic struggles. As every student has a unique learning style and pace, a
private tutor is able to adjust the level of instruction towards an individual student's
needs – something that just isn't possible in a group classroom environment. Students
often feel uncomfortable speaking up in class, especially when they know they're falling
behind. For this reason, a skilled educator offering personalized instruction is one of the
best ways to approach learning gaps.

Learning gaps need to be identified, analyzed, and approached with patience.

Students all have different strengths, and there are many reasons why
learning gaps form to begin with. At Tutor Doctor, we believe personalized
instruction is the most effective way to address these challenges. By catering
instruction to each unique student, we can ensure that a student's academic
gaps will be approached with the individual's learning style in mind.

In the world of education, we hear the term “learning gap” all the time. When a
student begins to struggle or fall behind with their academic progression, we
often refer to learning gaps as a reason why they are having trouble
understanding the material.

learning gaps are the difference between what a student is expected to have
learned by a certain grade level versus what they have actually learned up to
that point. In other words, a student is expected to have acquired a certain
reading level by the time they complete any given grade or school year. If the
student is not able to read books at this skill level by this age, we might
consider a learning gap in reading and comprehension
exists.`1```````````````````````````````````````1
The achievement gap negatively affects individuals and society, as students miss out on job
and career opportunities and the rest of us miss out on the contributions they might have made
if there had been no gap.

The achievement gap is the education gap between the performance group
of students in which these groups are usually defined by their social status,
race or gender. The education experts proved that this gap had a negative
impact on the students of the new generation as most of them tend to
believe that this gap couldn 't be changed and that their life success and
learning will be depending on their social status, race or gender. This gap not
only affects students, but also affects everyone in the community as the
academic achievement is linked to some problems like lower life time
earnings, an increase dependence on social services and increase rate of
crimes. Education experts believes that the only way to solve this gap issue is
by the help of the community as the whole not just the help of the schools
and teachers.

The "achievement gap" in education refers to the disparity in academic performance between
groups of students. The achievement gap shows up in grades, standardized-test scores,
course selection, dropout rates, and college-completion rates, among other success measures.

Food scarcity is an example of an opportunity gap that low-income students may experience.
A student may live in a low-income home where food scarcity is an issue. That student may not
receive breakfast in the morning, or may go to bed without receiving dinner.

An “achievement gap” refers to the discrepancy in academic performance between groups of students. It shows
up in grades, test scores, course selection, dropout rates and college completion rates.
Why is there a need to address such gaps

Every high school senior asks themselves a very important question: should I
take a year off before I go to college? Gap years are becoming a very popular
option for students who want to see what life is on their own before they go
off to college. Even though they can be beneficial to some students, they
come with more disadvantages than advantages. High school seniors should
not take gap years because they distract students, cause students to lose
skills learned in high school, and cost lots of money. One major reason why
people should not take gap years is because people may find living in the
“real world” more enjoyable than going to school. After a newly graduated
young adult gets a chance to experience the “real world”

Bringing equity to all students is not a simple task. But by building deeper relationships and
fostering a growth mindset for our students, we can start to close the achievement gap,
classroom by classroom.

Education stands as one of the bedrocks of society. Specifically, it is the force that
provides society with the basis for its development, gives society a base of able workers,
and allows for proper political participation. It has been noted by many strategists and
analysts that in order for individuals to advance economically, they need to be exposed
to proper education. With this in mind, there is a major problem with education.
Inequality is currently overrunning the system. Specifically, there are problems relating
to race and to income. People of color and poor people are often abandoned when it
comes to education, left to their own devices in schools that tend to fail to them. This is
a major social condition issue. At current, the problem can be identified quantitatively
by looking at the metrics. People of color and poor people are testing poorer, are
graduating at lower rates, and are not able to access the opportunities that tend to go
along with education. It is apparent that many of the bigger macroeconomic problems
in the American economy—including unemployment, wealth inequality, and the like—
are linked to inequality in education. This is why the problem has garnered interest and
demanded action by the people who have the ability to fix the issue.
Given how complex this social problem happens to be, it is difficult to nail down a
singular cause of the issue. In terms of the economic side of the issue, one can point to
the fact that in communities with low incomes and lower wealth ratios, it is true that
there is less of a tax base to provide the things that these young people need in their
schools. In order to run effective schools, one needs the money to pay good teachers.
One also needs the money to purchase computers and other technology that can allow
students to develop the skills they need for the modern world. It is difficult to do this in
a county where the tax base is not as good as in other counties. Specifically, this
problem can be explained by the source of the funding for these schools. School funding
often comes from the property taxes collected in the district. This means that in places
where there are large portions of homeowners with nice, valuable homes, there is more
money to be spent on schools. In places where poorer people live, home values have
gone down, and on top of that, more people are apt to rent in these instances.
