 INTRODUCTION

The past continuous is used for actions that were happening at a specific time

in the past. Like the present continuous, it is formed with the auxiliary verb “to be”

and the verb + ing.

It is used to describe actions that are occurring at this moment, that is, at the

moment in which it is being spoken. It can also be used to talk about the future, it is

formed with the verb to be in the present simple (am, is, are) plus the main verb in

gerund (ending in –ing). The rule of thumb is that 99% of the time we use it, we

contract when we speak.
