rest of the RAF’s Vulcan fleet being scrapped, it was deemed too costly to repair the Rolls-Royce

The airport now has four passenger

Future Battles
Vienna has been remarkably
successful in attracting new airlines.
Among its long-haul carriers, Air Canada
launched daily Toronto flights in April
2019, All Nippon Airways (ANA) recently
began a daily service to Tokyo/Haneda,
Thai Airways has upgraded its
still-new Bangkok/Suvarnabhumi
service to a daily frequency, while
Hainan Airlines began flying to
Shenzhen. At the same time, Austrian
added routes to Los Angeles, Tokyo/
Narita, Montreal and Cape Town.
Yet the most significant growth has
resulted from the rapid, large-scale
market entry of the low-cost airlines,
which had continued to grow prior
to the COVID-19 crisis. For years,
Vienna seemed to have escaped the
attention of Ryanair, easyJet and their
competitors. As an alternative, carriers
looking to offer low-cost flights from the
area sometimes chose nearby Bratislava
