only one preserved in Canada. While flying from RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire, to Offutt Air Force
Base, Nebraska, it developed an in-flight fire and diverted to Goose Bay, Newfoundland. With the
rest of the RAF’s Vulcan fleet being scrapped, it was deemed too costly to repair the Rolls-Royce
Olympus-powered jet and it was donated to the nearby town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay as a CP Air – later Canadian Airlines International – leased this McDonnell Douglas DC-10-10, N1836U

This 1958-built de Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter, (c/n 262), was delivered to Luanda-based

turboprop in 2004 and it continues to fly for Wings Airways.
The Canadair CL-215 replaced the Catalina and Canso as an aerial firefighter with the government

waterbombers. This example, CF-IZZ (c/n 2134), was purchased from Protection Civile (later
Sécurité Civile) in 1973. Sold to Spain in 1992 as EC-FMC, it has since been re-registered N24VP
and is currently being restored to flight at Ocaña, Spain.
Inter City Airways was a short-lived Canadian carrier, starting and ceasing operations during

This Convair CV-580, C-GNMQ (c/n 340-161), was initially built as a CV-340 and was delivered
as N73148 to United Airlines in March 1954. While serving in Venezuela with Avensa, the aircraft
was hijacked during a connection between Barcelona/General José Antonio Anzoáteguiand
and Caracas/Simón Bolívar. The flight was diverted to Curaçao, where it was refuelled and
passengers were released, before continuing to Havana, Cuba. It joined the Nordair Metro fleet in
1986 and was scrapped in 1993.

new to Braathens SAFE as LN-SUO in December 1969. It joined the Quebec Air fleet in 1986 as
C-GQBS, spending three years with the Canadian operator. Having flown in France with TAT
European Airlines for six years from 1989, it ended its flying career in 1996 and was scrapped at
Dinard/Bretagne the following year.
