Both examples, PA Forward and ALA’s libraries, present campaigns to encourage the

connection of libraries to their communities and the importance of this work. The importance
of showcasing what libraries can offer to their communities and showcase the work that they
do for their programs is so important for a multitude of reasons. The programs do a nice job of
showing how a diverse set of programs can offer communities and students a set of different
skills and knowledge. They also show what they have to offer and how these programs can
support a diverse group of citizens of their communities.
Originally I was looking to market our own library at my school, but I wanted to reach a
broader group of people than just our school community. Choosing the local library will allow
for me to reach beyond our school, into our entire district community. The library does offer
many different programs, most of the programs benefit the younger community and interactive
read alouds or read alouds. The library also is a part of 1,000 books before Kindergarten.
Because this library is a part of the Berks County Library system (BCLS), the patrons of the BCLS
have access to all programs at all libraries. The Mifflin Community Library posts all of the
events that are being hosted around the county on their website. When looking at the events
there are none that are hosted at the Mifflin Community Library. Also when looking at the
events, there are many events that are hosted quite some time away from our area. Hosting
events although possible quite a lot to create, prepare, and host would draw positive attention
to this amazing business in the community that benefits children of all ages and adults. The
library does have play space at the library including a train table and set, blocks of varying sizes
and shapes, puzzles, play kitchen, building blocks, and magnetic blocks, but again this is aimed
for a younger audience. Having more opportunities available to the residents of the community
is pretty much beneficial to everyone involved or potentially involved.
Other than read alouds hosted at the library, there really isn’t anything else that draws
in other children of other ages. I am creating a marketing plan advocating for an after school
program hosted at the library. There are obviously quite a few logistical things that would need
to be worked out but for the most part I could plan it on paper at this moment in time. The
buses have to run directly by the library to get back to their designated hub. Each school could
have a specific bus for students to take and have a bus stop at the library. The parents would
need to sign up ahead of time for their student to attend. There would be a cost for this after
school program as well. Teachers could sign up for time to work depending on their schedules.
I am unsure whether or not for this to be paid or volunteer. I was also thinking of offering spots
to student teachers as well to build their resumes. The beauty of having teachers or student
teachers to do this work is that they already have their clearances and a rapport with the
community to ensure the bridge between the community, the schools, and the library. At the
library the students will have a multitude of different activities to partake in. The students can
work on homework with assistance from teachers, get help on research projects, work on
devices with teachers assistance, read, socially play, and different STEM projects.
This is not only a great way for students to continue to be with their peers, have
assistance for parents for care, allowing teachers to be a part of it being they know the
curriculum, helping students grow, and building the connection between school, community,
and library. This would hopefully also allow for growth in patrons for the library by bringing in
more families and older students and patrons. This program could work well with the library to
figure out logistics such as numbers, times, and days.
I have created a WeVideo short video to showcase this program. The beauty of using
WeVideo is that it is a platform used by all schools so it will be easy to showcase as well as
being able to be converted to a google document MP4 video. Each school can show this at the
end of the year for the following year or at the beginning of the year based on the logistics of
the program. This video can also be showcased on a multitude of different social media
platforms. The school can send this video out via email, classdojo, through teacher
communication, and on their Facebook page. The library could also send this information out
via their website and Facebook page. I specifically chose Facebook for the library because that
was the social media platform that seemed to have the most traffic and most recent updated
information. The school social media platforms really vary depending on schools and their
populations, so a variety of options would work best for the school marketing. Attached in this
