Central retinal artery It is a branch of the ophthalmic artery. It provides arterial supply to the inner surface of the eye together with the
and vein central retinal vein.
Optic disk It is the area in the retina where retinal ganglion cells exit the eye to form the optic nerve.
Sclera It is a thick white connective tissue and it is seen anteriorly as the “white of the eye.”
Choroid It supplies the outer retina with nutrients, and maintains the temperature and volume of the eye.
Retina It is the sensory membrane that lines the inner surface of the back of the eyeball.
Medial rectus muscle It is an extraocular muscle that contributes to controlling the movements of the eye.
Conjunctiva It is the membrane that lines the eyelid and loops back to cover the sclera. It helps lubricate the eye by producing mucus
and tears, although a smaller volume of tears than the lacrimal gland.
Lens It is composed of transparent, flexible tissue and it is located directly behind the iris and the pupil.
Pupil It is the opening in the center of the iris and it gives structure to our eyes their color.
Anterior chamber The space in the eye that is behind the cornea and in front of the iris.
Cornea It is called the “window” through this the light enters the eye. It is well supplied with nerve endings.
Iris muscle This muscles control the size of the pupil and thus determine how much light reaches the sensory tissue of the retina.
Ciliary muscle It is an intrinsic muscle of the eye that participates in the accommodation reflex.
Lateral rectus muscle It is an extraocular muscle of the eye responsible for abducting the eyeball.
Vitreous body It is the transparent, gelatinous substances that fills the space of the eye between lens and retina.
Retinal artery It is a blood vessel inside the eye. It provides essential nutrients to the retina.
Retinal vein It drain the blood out of the eye.
Macula It is the most sensitive sport in the center of the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue that lines the inside of the back
of the eye.
Optic nerve It is the nerve that transmits visual information from the retina to the brain.
