It gives me great pleasure to introduce our Guest of Honor and Speaker
tonight, not only for his compelling successful political career, but more than that, his known humbleness, kind heartedness and generousity. He has a prolific career to more than 35 years as an elected public official. He started his public service in 1982 as the elected Barangay Captain and has been unopposed for three consecutive terms serving for 10 years. From 1992 to 2011, and 2004 to 2007, he was also elected as Municipal and City Councilor for two consecutive terms. During the same period, he was elected as President of the Philippine Councilors’ League for both La Union and Region 1 Chapters. Between 1998 to 2004, he served as Provincial Board Member of the Province of La Union. After which, he was elected as the City Mayor of San Fernando and went on for three consecutive terms which ended in 2016. In May 2016, he won very convincingly as the Representative of the First District of La Union. As member of the 17th Congress of the House of Representatives, he was designated as VICE CHAIRMAN of the Committees on Dangerous Drug and North Luzon Growth Quadrangle. Likewise he is a Member of various committees to include the Committees on Bases Conversion, Basic Education, Good Government, Health, ICT, Local Government, MDG, Suffrage & Electoral Reforms, Youth and Sports.
The man of the hour holds a degree in Bachelor of Science in
Commerce (major in Management) from San Sebastian College in Manila. He was recently conferred his Doctor of Public Administration, Honoris Causa by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. He is married to Ms. Mariquita Padua-Ortega, who is serving as AVP-North Luzon of the Philippine National Bank. Their marriage is blessed with two (2) children, his daughter - Lucia Esperanza Ortega-Valero, who holds a degree in Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lorma Colleges, now married to Joseph Bernard Valero, EMO Manager of the La Union Electric Company and a former City Councilor and their marriage is blessed with two children; and his son - Hon. Francisco Paolo Ortega V, who finished Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management from San Beda College Manila, Masters in Public Management at Ateneo School of Government and currently enrolled at Harvard Kennedy School of Government taking up Masters in Public Administration, who is also on his last term as City Councilor, elected as the President of the Philippine Councilors League, La Union Chapter, now sitting as an Ex-Officio Member of the Provincial Board of La Union. Our Guest of Honor and Speaker’s accomplishments as a politician is legendary but is it his public service that truly sets him apart. So, without so much ado, ladies and gentlemen, with much pride and honor, please join me in warmly welcoming tonight’s Guest of Honor and Speaker, Representative of the First District of La Union – CONGRESSMAN PABLO CAMPOS – ORTEGA.
