Hi Randell,

Hope this message finds you well! My name is Nikki Sindiong, I am a writer who is
currently working on a story about four of Manila's markets (Dangwa, Quinta, Paco,
and San Andres) for a special tourism publication about the city. I am working under
Miguel Ortega, who I believe has informed you about the project already.

If it's alright, I'd like to send some questions about the aforementioned markets, for
Ms. Zenaida Mapoy. The information I will gather here will greatly help us with our
story. Kindly see my questions below—I know it looks like a lot, but the market-
specific questions are mostly just about their operational details, size, and foot traffic.
If you could get back to me with Ms. Mapoy's answers, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks so much again for accommodating this interview! Please keep safe.

Overall

 Manila is home to so many great markets. Dangwa, Quinta, San Andres, and
Paco are just some of them… Why do you think this is so? What makes
Manila so conducive to the rise and success of such markets?
 How many markets in total can be found in the city of Manila?
 Of all of these markets, which would you say is the most popular, and why
so? And which market is the oldest?
 Between our featured markets Dangwa, Quinta, San Andres, and Paco, which
do you think is the most popular, and why so? Which is the oldest?
 These 4 markets have been around for a long time, with some even dating
back to the Spanish colonial period. Why do you think they’ve lasted this
long? And how have they changed through the years/how have they been
updated to adapt to the times?
 How important do you think/what role do they play in the lives of the city’s
residents (and even the city’s visitors)?
 Where do you see these markets in the next 5-10 years?
 How has the COVID pandemic affected traffic and business in these
markets?
 If you could say anything to encourage and convince potential visitors to visit
these markets, what would it be?

Dangwa

 When was this market founded and how did it arrive at its current location?
 How big is the Dangwa market?
 What are its operating hours?
 How many seller stalls are there currently?
 What makes this the best place or the go-to for flowers in Manila?
 Can you give us at least an estimate of the number of people that visit
Dangwa each day/month/year?
 How are the flowers/stalls organised? Are they separated into sections, per
flower type or occasion?
 What is the Manila Flower Center? This looks like a more recent addition to
Dangwa. When was it founded or built? How is it different from all the other
parts of Dangwa?

Quinta

 Quinta was renovated in 2017. What has changed about it since?

 How big is the market now?
 What are its operating hours?
 How many vendor stalls does it currently have?
 Can you give us at least an estimate of the number of people that visit this
market per day/month/year?
 It’s called a fish port, but it sells more than fish. What other notable items can
be purchased here?
 The market has a ferry terminal. Can you tell us more about this and its use or
purpose? When or how often does it operate?

San Andres

 When was this market founded?

 How big is this market?
 What are its operating hours?
 How many vendor stalls does it currently have?

market per day/month/year?
 What can visitors expect from this fruit market/what sets it apart from other
markets/fruit markets in Manila?

Paco

 When was this market founded?

about it since? What can visitors expect from the newly-renovated space?
 How big is the market now?
 What are its operating hours?
 How many vendor stalls does it have?
 What notable products can visitors find in this market?
 Can you give us at least an estimate of the number of people that visit this
market per day/month/year?
