A. Central Tendency (from CM4)

1. Which group of students has the highest mean height in centimeters? (5pts)

Solution:

Freshmen: 152 cm, 154 cm, 168 cm, 190 cm = 664 ÷ 4 = 166 cm

Sophomores: 144 cm, 155 cm, 167 cm, 175 cm, 177 cm, 189 cm
= 1,007 ÷ 6 = 167.83 = 168 cm

Juniors: 150 cm, 155 cm, 160 cm, 170 cm, 188 cm = 823 ÷ 5 = 164.6 = 165 cm

Seniors: 149 cm, 150 cm, 165 cm, 169 cm, 177 cm = 810 ÷ 5 = 162 cm

Answer: Sophomores have the highest mean height which is 168 cm

2. The observations below are the body temperatures in degree Celsius of 5 patients
having fever in Ward A of Hospital X. Find the mean temperature of the patients. (1pt)

Solution and Answer: 39.9

Lily 40.5

Dyna 39.8

Betsy 41.0

Daryl 38.8

Cynthia 39.6

199.7 ÷ 5 = 39.94 = 39.9

3. Find the mean, median and mode of the following weights in pounds of new born
infants of Hospital Y: (3pts)

6.5 4.0 5.0 5.5 6.0 5.5 6.0 4.8 7.5 5.5

Solution and Answers:

Mean: 6.5 + 4.0 + 5.0 + 5.5 + 6.0 + 5.5 +6.0 + 5.5 + 6.0 + 4.8 + 7. 5 + 5.5 = 56.3 ÷ 10 = 56.3= 5.63

Median: 4.0, 4.8, 5.0, 5.5, 5.5, 5.5, 6.0, 6.0, 6.5, 7.5 = 5.5

Mode: 5.5
