ABSTRACT
Beamforming is a technique used in sensor arrays for directional signal transmission or
reception. This is achieved by combining elements in such a way that signals at particular angles
experience constructive while others experience destructive interference. Beamforming can be
used at both the transmitting and receiving ends in order to achieve spatial selectivity. Using
Beamforming you can direct the majority of signal energy you transmit from a group of
transducers (like audio speakers or radio antennae) in a chosen angular direction.
After the audio feeds are acquired from the microphones, the feed is sent through a processor to
analyze and adjust the sound. Beam forming microphones use a relatively new sound processing
technology, which can be used in hearing aids to better isolate a sound and its location. Beam-
forming technology can also help filter out excess room noise. This technology is useful when
recording professional audio in the studio, but it can also be used for simple applications, such as
optimizing the sound in your home theater.
The main process in our project is to receive signals from microphone.
Sensors in any wave propagation medium (acoustic, electromagnetic) can form a response
pattern with higher sensitivity in desired directions. After converting into digital signal we will
parallel interface it with computer. In computer we will use Matlab software to handle the
signals for the purpose of Beamforming.
Beamforming can be used for radio or sound waves; it has various applications in radar, sonar’s,
seismology, wireless communications, radio astronomy, acoustics and bio-medicines.

ISSUES AND CHALLENGES:

The issues and challenges of the project are

1- Synchronously arranging op-amp filters.
2- IC’s interfacing with one another and with computer.
3- Localization in 3d

OBJECTIVE:

The main objective of our project is to

1- Acquire signal for Beamforming.
2- Handle analog signal synchronously.
3- Suppress the noise from signal.
4- Localization of the source

METHODOLOGY:
In our project we use the method of receiving the signal through four
microphones; the signal from the micro-phones is then passed through the
analog /digital converter circuit and then interfaced with computer. Here we sum
up the signal using Matlab to direct the signal for the purpose of Beamforming.
