COUNSELOR’S CORNER
Hello! Namaste! Well wishes!
My name is Ms. Allaire and I am a school counselor for Kentwood Schools. I have served in the
district for 22 years, counseling at all levels. As an elementary counselor, I work with students
individually, in small groups, and within the classroom to build social-emotional skills and strate-
gies that help to increase success at school and are transferable to all environments and
throughout their lifetime.
Thank you for your unconditional love, patience, and support for your child(ren), as caring
for each others’ hearts is of utmost importance. I look forward to connecting with you and
your family. Please feel free to email or call me with questions or concerns that may be affect-
ing your child’s experience at school. Together we will support each other toward the achieve-
ment of common goals. Have a great school year!

The Michigan reading law was implemented in all districts on August 1, 2017
Michigan’s test scores on reading assessments (M-STEP English Language Arts and
NAEP Reading Assessment) have shown a need for attention to early reading and literacy
The law requires additional support for any K-3 student that shows a reading deficiency
The goal is for all third graders to be reading at or above a third grade level
If your child has a reading deficiency, he/she will receive an Individual Reading Improvement
Plan (IRP).
On Wednesday, September 30th, written notification was mailed to our Bowen families de-
scribing the Third Grade Reading Law and your child’s Individual Reading Improvement Plan
(IRP). Your child’s IRP details areas of proficiency, and areas that need further growth. On
Tuesday, October 6th your child’s teacher will be reaching out to confirm you received
this information. These documents will be discussed in more detail at Parent -Teacher
Conferences at the end of October.
