A REVIEW:
Sponsor Overview
Is the background of the client who are inviting organizations or individuals to solve their problem. There are the one who
are requesting for an RFP.
Key Questions
Whenever you are planning to conduct research, it is always a good idea to start with some guided questions. The RFP
provides the topic for the research. In the sample RFP, it is the inspection of bridges. When you read an RFP, it will likely
provide you with answers to most of the following questions:
o Who?
o What?
o Where?
o When?
o Why?
o How?
o Which
When you know the answers to these questions, you can write that information into the KWL chart. It belongs in the first
column because that is where you write what you already know.
In the second column, you will list what you want to know about the topic. These are your lines of inquiry, or in other words,
the questions that will drive your research. If you are uncertain, ask your teacher to model how to generate lines of inquiry
using the sample RFP. You might ask why bridges need to be inspected, or how bridges are inspected.
You should then generate some ideas for where to find those answers. That information will go in the third column of the
KWL chart.
The fourth column is where you write the useful information that you find.
The second page of the Research Notes reviews keyword searching. It has tips for finding the information that you want,
and a way to keep track of what you have already searched for.
A KWL chart will help you to organize the information. Before you begin your research, list details from the RFP in the first
column. Then, list the questions that you have about the problem in the second column. Fill out the third column to guide
where to look during your research. After some research, fill out the last column.
Gantt Chart
The Gantt chart provides a graphical illustration of a schedule that helps to keep track of progress on specific tasks in a
project. Simple versions of Gantt charts may be created on graph paper and more complex versions may be created using
project management applications such as Microsoft Project or Excel.
Written Proposal
It is the proposed solution of an organization or individual who wishes to solve the problem being asked by the Sponsor, it
simply answers the RFP.
The Written Proposal should be a professional-quality written submission including the following information:
Company introduction, including names and background of all team members
Description of team member responsibilities
List of materials needed to complete the project
Evaluation of the benefits of using robots for inspecting bridges; may include a list of material and cost savings as
well as direct impacts to worker health and safety
Clear description of methods or technologies that you will use to create the solution.
