Notes: Learning how to moderate and how to collaborate with other year 7 teachers from other
schools to improve self-learning and achievement.
Purpose: Ensuring marking is consistent across the students and accurate against the proforma

What is happening:
- Working in small Webex groups (3 teachers) with 2 other year 7 teachers from other schools.
- Picking 2 students and 4 pieces of writing each – individually showing each piece of work and
discussing with other teachers if they agree/disagree with the grading you gave and why.
- Other teachers show theirs – they also compare pieces of writing that other teachers marked
the same (either a B or an A) and compare with other pieces to see if its on the same level –
justifying the mark given.

 Asking critical questions on why the teacher gave that grade and what their interpretation of
where the student needs to go next.

Where to next / follow up:


o When marking students with a grade; satisfactory, good, excellent (C, B, A), ensure I’m not just
comparing students against a really high levelled piece of writing to mark theirs. Start marking
against a rubric if unsure of marking with correct grades for every student.
o Teach students Harvard referencing style of how to reference – include in Geography (website
making).

Referencing:
Teach how to reference correctly
Harvard referencing – explain that you can use the generator but need to double check as
its not always correct and can unnecessarily use commas and full stops throughout.
