Students may only perform alternative works OR perform on an alternative instrument where prior
written approval has been given by the VCAA.

Students should present for this examination at least 30 minutes before the time set down for
assessment.

Please note: Page turners are not permitted.

For further information about procedures, resources and conditions refer to VCE Music Investigation

Note: Works presented for assessment in one VCE or VET Music study cannot be presented for
assessment in another VCE or VET Music study.

Completing the Performer’s Statement

In Music Investigation Units 3 and 4 students develop knowledge that, within the context of the
Investigation Topic, is both broad and deep. Central to the Investigation is development of a
performance program that demonstrates this knowledge. To fully address the performance
examination criteria at the highest level, students need to focus their performance to demonstrate skill
in diverse yet relevant technical and expressive performance techniques and conventions. Within the

1
time available for the examination students will not be able to demonstrate all they have learnt about
the topic they have investigated throughout the year.

This Performer’s Statement allows students to inform assessors about the scope and direction, or
‘performance focus’, of the program they will hear in the performance. The Performer’s Statement
should also assist the assessors to understand the relationship of all works in the program to the
‘performance focus’ and therefore, the Investigation Topic that has been selected for study throughout
the year.

The Performer’s Statement form indicates where to provide required information. There is no
character limit for any section of the form. However, the total word count for the Performer’s
Statement should not exceed 300 words.

Note: the Performer’s Statement is not assessed.

Performer’s Statement
These comments should not exceed 300 words. The statement must refer to:
 how works in the program relate to the identified area of investigation
 musical (stylistic) characteristics that will be demonstrated within the performance program (as
relevant to the investigation topic)
 performance techniques, practices and conventions that will be evident in the performance
program (as relevant to the investigation topic).

The statement may but does not have to refer individually to each work in the program.

The statement may but does not have to refer to research that has informed the student’s
understanding of the possibilities for their performance, for example, personal, stylistic, practical,
technological, historical and cultural influences.

Sub-headings and/or dot points may be used.

Accompanist Recording Consent

Solo students should provide their accompanist/s with an Accompanist Recording Consent form. It is
recommended that this form is provided to the accompanist for completion prior to the examination
where possible.

The student should hand this completed form to the assessors on entry to the examination room,
together with all other required examination documentation.

An Accompanist Recording Consent form is provided on page 5.

Any enquiries about this requirement should be directed to the Project Manager Arts Performance:
