“Pathao” means to send, is a ride sharing service in Bangladesh. It is an app base ride sharing service
which is the fastest growing technology-based company. From the starting, this company is serving
its clients in vigorous means and its services are increasing day by day following the vision of
moving Bangladesh forward. Pathao is responsible for fetching enormous change in the
transportation service of the country through bike, car and cargo(parcel). This organization has
employed notable number of bikers and car drivers as well as others and provides solutions of
transportation, food and parcel with the ultimate use of the latest app-based technology. Basically,
ride share service compares the user likings with information given by personnel who is requesting,
or seeking for the transportation ( McCallII & Lazar, 2014). Pathao aims to gives its users best
services considering so many issues.
Ride sharing services provides freedom to use one request and account which will be used globally
(Chaudhry , Haque , -Haque , & Shakshuki, 2018). Patho is also offering the service in the same
manner. Ride sharing permits several people to share their one automobile for their trips in its place
of using many vehicles which minimizes the amount of vehicles in the street, and in the long run
controls air pollution, traffic congestion and transportation cost ( Nabil, Mahmoud, Sherif, Alsharif,
& Abdallah, 2018).
About the company (Pathao)
Hussain M Elius (CEO), a North South University former student, Shifat Adnan (CTO), an alum
from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), and Fahim Saleh who used to
work in HackHouse together formed the company Pathao where it is now (Ullah, Parvez, Ahmed, &
Mahtab, 2019).
Patho, the smart ride sharing company founded back in 2015, serving in the area of Ride sharing,
Food delivery, Parcel and Courier verticals and gives some other promotional services like Uthao
(helicopter service) during some special occasion and aiming to launch many more within short time
considering clients needs. At the starting, Pathao was funded on its own but recently some
international companies are coming forward to fund this company. Recently, an Indonesia based
motorcycle ride sharing company is funding this company.
Pathao is a leading character in the ride sharing market, which took the place of uber and also
recently acquired by the Singapore based Grab. The scenario is changing in a positive way since the
last two years rapidly in a positive way. Due to having the strong consumer base with the rising
income and internet penetration rate, the sharing economy services are having fertile ground and ride
sharing services are taken off the past two years (Kamal & Ahsan, 2018)
Currently Pathao is one of the leading rides sharing company in Bangladesh. Being one of the
pioneer company in digital platform of transportation in the country, it is facing difficulty in many
ways. Payment system is not updated in this country as most of the people prefer to pay via cash.
Pathao is aiming to open Pathao pay wallet to barrier the payment problem and also to digitalize it
(Ullah, Parvez, Ahmed, & Mahtab, 2019). The customer of Patho will soon enjoy to use this credit to
purchase Pathao services through a cashless digital service (Ullah, Parvez, Ahmed, & Mahtab, 2019).
At present, Pathao is having nearly fifty thousands of bikes and a team of nearly 500 employees who
are covering three major cities of the country and providing millions of rides and over hundreds of
thousands of deliveries’ every month (Russell, 2018). Pathao has been contributory in fronting the
marketplace along with Uber. It imprinted out its position by concentrating on motorbike amenities,
initiating itself with an striking melodious tag-line to Dhaka travelers: 'Beat the traffic'. It is
demonstrated on alike, and fruitful, ride-hailing motorbike services
in crowded emerging-market cities like Jakarta, Indonesia (Go-Jek), and Kigali, Rwanda (Safe
Motos). Pathao has already taken an initial lead by exploiting on these companies' homegrown know-
how (Kamal & Ahsan, 2018).
