Abstract:

Fluid in general has several properties, but viscosity is a very important characteristic.

Viscosity is related to the liquid movement and its motion near objects boundaries. Using

other scientific words it indicates the resistance of shear within the fluid as mentioned in

the class handout. Also it describes the internal friction of a moving fluid. The resistance

is caused due to intermolecular friction exerted when layers of the fluid slide by one

another. Viscosity is calculated using stokes law assuming all the law requirements are

applied. The other side of the experiment is the capillarity using he height of capillary

rise assuming Jurins law. The experiment of viscosity is done by calculating the velocity

of two different spheres with different sizes on two different liquids (water, glycerol).

While, the experiment of capillarity is applied using three different diameter tubes.

Objective:

The objective of this experiment is to get some fluid property as viscosity of water and

glycerol. Also, to calculate the density of the liquids to use it in the calculations.

Corrected free fall velocity using Brenner’s equation is also was an objective in the

experiment to use it in calculating viscosity. The main objective also is to relate the

density to the viscosity. In the experiment of capillarity, the objective was to calculate

the contact angle using height of capillary rise. And see the effect of diameter on the

capillarity.
