Effective head (H) is calculated using this equation:

H=Outlet Head−Inlet Head

Flow rate is calculated using this equation:

V (l)
Q(l/ s)=
t (s )

The hydraulic power output is calculated using this equation:

Ρ=g xH xQ

With Q being the recorded discharge (m3/s)

H being the effective head (m)

ρ = 998.2 kg/m3 being the density of water at 25°C and g=9.81 m/s2

the angular velocity (W)is calculated using this equation:

2 πN
ω (rad /s )=
60

The inlet power is calculated using this equation:

Pi=ωT

T being the torque (N.m)

Table 8 pump systems

for single pump:

both P1 and P2 measure the same pressure because both are measuring on the same pipe
for the only one pump. Since valve C and B are closed

Then H is eaqual to 10.22 x (P1 or P2) in this case

Since both P1 and P2 are measuring same pressure.,

For pump in parallel:

Since only valve B is aclosed then P1 measure the pressure for pump 1 and P2 measures
the total pressure due to pump 1 and pump 2. But since in parallel then the head due to
pump 1 , 2 and total head is equal. Then P2=P1=P

The head will be equal H= P2 X 10.22

For pumps in series

Since only valve B is opened then p1 measures P due to pump 1 and P2 measure P due to
pump 1 and pump 2. Then p2 is the total P. since in series the H= (Ppump1 x 10.22) +
(PPUMP 2 X 10.22)

Then the total head will be equal to P2 x 10.22

Since P2 is the total pressure of the system.

For the lowest pump setting, calculate and compare the Q and H delivered with one
single pump in operation to:

a. the Q and H delivered by 2 pumps in operation in parallel
